Former players on Knight - Article/link

I vividly remember that Paul Hackett was the players' overwhelming choice to replace Gottfried. VanPelt had a group of them went to the AD to personally lobby for that hire.

That was current players though correct? These were all former players. And I'll say again - I'm not advocating they hire Knight.

Same thing happened when Howland was being replaced FWIW.

Point being, you don't let present or former players make those calls, or even take their input. They are too biased.

The article did make me think that Knight might do things differently than Dixon, both in terms of recruiting and style of offensive play. Both would have to be a given for Barnes to consider him, but I'm liking the possibility more than before.

I don't disagree. I just thought it was interesting for pretty much the reasons Raleigh stated - that Knight was capable of being his own man and not necessarily married to Dixon's style.

Read the words of AD Barnes carefully.... He wants a guy hat coaches more of an uptempo game, he wants a coach with head coaching experience, he wants a guy that can recruit his tail off.., Knight is none of those things...

Sorry ex-Panther players.... Not happening....

The ex-player's make compelling arguments. I wouldn't be disappointed in him being hired - and you would know pretty much @ year 1 whether or not he would make it.

I thought Hackett went to the chancellor and told him he could win with the strict academic guidelines Pitt was going to employ in football. Great idea, fellas. Thanks for ruining a decade of our lives with a crap product. Well worth it I see.

Who did we ever land out of Mississippi? A lot of hyperbole. If true, then Dixon shackled his own coaches over the years which is BS.

And none of these 3 guys have any real basketball or donor influence. They aren't big time NBA players, large donors, or even very influential circuit guys. Barnes should make them feel heard and appreciated and then should essentially disregard any opinion they have about the new coach.

Funny that Tray Woodall even kind of submarines Knight by saying he can "go find guys deep in MS or NY" when that is completely the opposite of what fans and Barnes wants.

Kinda looking like Barnes might not have a clue. Really hope I'm wrong and he has a HR hire up his sleeve but what I'm hearing is chaos.

Really need someone with HC chops. Where he recruits is immaterial, just that he CAN recruit. Few recruits coming out of NYC anymore but our fan base doesn't even know that. We're not turning the clock back to 2000-2005 when most of our guys came from the City.

Let's give it a week before we start seriously talking about BK. Again, it's obvious old players would support one of their own. And, yeah, the '16 recruits like him. The question is the current guys.

As much as I wished Knight was ready, I do not think he is. Maybe coaching under Dixon held him back. I truly believe he could have been a more effective recruiter than he was allowed to be. The new coach should select his assistants. I hope he selects Knight.

Are you a Pitt fan or just a Jamie Dixon fan?

Why does Barnes look like he doesn't have a clue. We aren't even a couple days into this.

What exactly are you hearing?
