When the Old Dominion coaches asked Sherando (Va.) High School coach Bill Hall about linebacker George Aston, he was honest with them.

“He told ODU, ‘You can offer him a scholarship, or you can watch him play on TV on Saturdays,' ” said Rick Aston, George's father.

If they're interested, the ODU coaches can see Aston on Saturday when Pitt (5-4, 2-3 ACC) plays No. 3 Clemson (9-0, 6-0) in a nationally televised game on ABC (Channel 4 locally).

Except he won't be at linebacker.

Aston, who came to Pitt two years ago as a walk-on, has become one of the surprises of the season, a fullback who not only blocks, but catches, runs and scores. He has six touchdowns, tied with wide receiver Jester Weah and behind only James Conner and Quadree Henderson.......................

Aston is the classic case for the misguided people that say stars don't matter. He will be cherry picked for years.

This guy is very athletic for the position he plays, and is a huge part of the success of the offense. Would not be shocked to see him on an NFL roster as an H-back.

Best fullback in the country, does it all. Not only does it all on offense, but what other fullback plays on all the kick teams? And he actually makes tackles and plays on them.

If any All American teams actually have a fullback on them, he should be the one.
