When the Old Dominion coaches asked Sherando (Va.) High School coach Bill Hall about linebacker George Aston, he was honest with them.
“He told ODU, ‘You can offer him a scholarship, or you can watch him play on TV on Saturdays,' ” said Rick Aston, George's father.
If they're interested, the ODU coaches can see Aston on Saturday when Pitt (5-4, 2-3 ACC) plays No. 3 Clemson (9-0, 6-0) in a nationally televised game on ABC (Channel 4 locally).
Except he won't be at linebacker.
Aston, who came to Pitt two years ago as a walk-on, has become one of the surprises of the season, a fullback who not only blocks, but catches, runs and scores. He has six touchdowns, tied with wide receiver Jester Weah and behind only James Conner and Quadree Henderson.......................
