Not being negative but factual and may have been mentioned already but Pitt has now lost at least three games in a season since 1982, Even our ACC title year we lost three when KP opted out in the Peach Bowl and Patte got hurt. And I have been around for all of them and a few others but I am running out of time.

When I fell in love with Pitt and decided they were my team in the early 80’s, it was the best, yet worst decision of my life.

The Atlanta exhibition loss doesn't count.

They played the game because people watch it. People watched a boxing exhibition in big numbers on Friday too.
What was it about $80 million or so to the contestants in that boxing exhibition.

Ended up being a real yawn fest which really wasn’t that surprising or unexpected. At least the undercard bouts were pretty decent (decent being an understatement for the women’s bout).

Yea. People watch exhibitions. That doesn't mean Pitt/MSU counts....for me.

it sure did count, affected the rankings. Could have been a 12 win, top 10 season. Narduzzi should have put ego aside and kept Whipple through bowl game and got Pickett to agree to play by any means imaginable (i.e. a "bonus" NIL payment)

Oh, wow, it affected how sports writers rank teams? Doesn't get any more official than that.

It's going to be 42 more years.

Yes, you are being negative. The reality of it is, even if Pitt was to go 12-1 this year, you would then say that only once in 42 years has Pitt lost less then 3 games. May I add, that with the new playoff system in place, a team with 3 loses could very well end up being a national champion.

The results are what they are and we can't change them. The thing I'm most concerned with is HOW we are losing for the past decades. Either we get blown out by some team that we used to be like back in the 80's or we just play very dumb football, like we do under Narduzzi, and lose by default. We are now staring at 2 more losses coming up, 5 losses in a row to end the season. My only hope now is that somehow either L'ville or BC overlooks us and we sneak in a win in one of those 2 games.

Let that sink in. 5 losses in a row to end the season. That's what we used to do under Carl DePasqua.

Bowl game??? I still believe that no team should make a bowl game unless they have at least 8 wins. This 6 win bowl eligibility stuff is nonsense and only there to make money for someone, not the teams. But just my opinion. I know most people don't share that.

I don't think either would give that any consideration. Some coaches leave for other jobs even if their current team is playing for a national championship.

Well now that Pitt is eliminated from the playoffs, they’re all exhibition games, right? Why watch? Why go to the games? Why keep score?

Quit trying to be an attention wh*re. You’re not that dumb….

Pitt has 2 regular season games which count towards the conference standings. I know nobody cares about conference standings but they are a thing and these games are part of the season. The bowl game takes place AFTER the season with most players opting out and half of the time without the HC and most of the staff. Its a glorified Spring Game.

I think 2 to 3 losses a year is going to be the norm for even the best of teams going forward. Between 12 games, conference championship game kids sitting out bowl games and the playoffs, along with the portal and consolidation, you’ll have some losses.

Yeah. People on here defended Kenny but I thought that was a royal **** job by him and it showed why he isn't a good pro. Sitting out an otherwise meaningless bowl game is one thing, but when the program you played for hasn't had a 12 win, or 2 loss at least season against a Big 10 foe in a Big 10 region, it was a huge potential win for Pitt. And well Kenny had to prepare for a season 10 months away. I am sorry, but he lost me then.

How long have you been watching college football? It is a glorified beauty contest where perception matters. Being ranked in the top 10 adds to the perception, as well as having 12 wins and only 2 losses. This isn't the NFL where a 7 loss team can win the super bowl.

As long as rankings occur after bowl games then it matters

I keep saying it but I wonder how much Whipple factored into that decision. Maybe he was looking to protect himself, can't totally blame him as Walker for MSU sat out also. But I agree he really should have played.

my first pitt game in person, my dad took me to in 1984, when i fell in love with pitt football. The byu opener, PItt highly ranked, we lost to byu.

if that isnt a precursor or foreshadowing of my life as a pitt fan, nothing is. in my defense, i was like 7 and didnt know to look for the signs.

For as much as the people who assert any degree of objectivity tend to be ridiculed from the cheerleaders on this board, at least we're still here. I think there are many Pitt fans who have realized this trend and just walked away altogether. Like, many.

That's funny FK said this. I am just a few years older than yinz, but we all grew up the same era. I get the folks who became Pitt fans because well they went to Pitt. But I was a Pitt fan before college. I became a fan during those heydays. The first Pitt game I ever attended as a teenager and before I ever even considered a school was Pitt/FSU where Pitt beat them 42-14 without breaking much of a sweat. I mean to have that kind of powerhouse 25 minutes from your living room, it would be stupid to not be a fan.

No I am not be negative and would dream about a 12-1 season . You could look up any one of my posts the only negative post I have is about Pitt reluctance to release schedule information . I never criticize a college player directly like some on this board.Even now when they are getting paid to play, ITS A FACT NOT AN OPINiON.

people watch bowl gams cause nothing else is on and an exhibition is still better than nothing. unless you guys have better things to do on Dec 28th at noon, bowl games still make money. even if we all realize they mean nothing, especially now with the playoff system in place.

i like them cause they give you an idea of younger players for the following season. that's why i have no problem with seniors opting out or nfl bound players opting out, i actually prefer it. we've seen them and they are moving on, time to see what the next batch of young players can do..

Opinion or fact, call it whatever you want to call it, it doesn't matter because you are going out of your way to find something negative to say about the Pitt football program. No need to GET ALL UPSET OVER IT, you are allowed to say whatever you want to say. Mark Madden does that same thing every year that Pitt does well in football. He always tries to bring up the 3 loss thing and he will always do so because it gets a reaction from Pitt fans. For me, I could care less about what Pitt's W-L record has been in the past. It is the past and that has nothing to do with what the current team is doing.
The reality of it is, the Pitt football program is not perfect. It has struggled in the past at times and has had some incredible success as well. Unless the school itself decides to place the football program as the #1 priority within the athletic department, the program will continue to have its ups and downs. I will say that, the 2024 football team has done better then I expected and it was fun to hear the name "PITT" being talked about when discussing potential playoff teams.
It is imperative for Pat Narduzzi to keep Kade Bell as his OC, Eli Holstein as his #1 QB and Desmond Reid as hie #1 RB. If he is able to do that and get some help for his OL, Pitt may be in the running for a playoff spot next year.

So have 108 other college football programs.
