Frank Martin out

Bloody Monday for college coaches although many were axed late last week. What a brutal business. South Carolina is officially a Ladies basketball school

Frank wore out his welcome he actually considered leaving last year for New Mexico but changed his mind. South Carolina will not get into a bidding war over a coach for men's basketball.

Martin has been floating his name out there for jobs for 3-4 years. He knew the end was coming. Good coach that will probably do well with a step down.

I had him pretty high on my list in 2018. Good coach but not good enough for the gauntlet of the SEC. Would do well in a lesser league like the ACC. I'd take him over a lottery ticket.

How many SEC teams made the tournament? It has to be what 9, 10, maybe 12 since it's the greatest conference ever known to man according to some hoopie...

Look at their seeds and get back to me. What less intelligent people fail to realize is when your league is that powerful at the top, its tough for the other teams to pick up enough quality wins.

I mean the SEC was so good this year, I would venture to say its one of the only conferences in NCAA history to send 6 teams with a 6 seed or better. I'm sure that's been done before but only a handful of times. The old Big East did it a couple times I know.

Actually when your league is really good at the top all the teams in the league have a lot more chances to pick up quality wins.

I mean who had more chances to get wins against high level teams in conference games, Virginia Tech or Texas A&M?

Says the guy who doesn't watching college basketball. 🙄

Not if they are TOO good.

Example. The badly underseeded Pitt team who beat Colorado and lost to Florida was underseeded because the league was too strong at the top and they got close but couldn't beat those teams: 1 UVa, 3 Duke, 3 Syr, 6 UNC. They went 0-5 against those teams.

The best kind of league there is to maximize bids is the Big 12 of a few years ago before Baylor and TT became basically blue bloodish. That old Big 12 would have Kansas as that 1 seed type of team but after that, you had 7-8 teams all from that 4/5 line to the 11 line. They'd all lose to Kansas but beat each other at home and have enough quality wins to get most of their league in the NCAAT

Technically, you don't have to watch college basketball to understand that when 1 conference gets very high seeds and the other gets very low seeds, the conference with the very high seeds is far superior.

Arkansas was so good they lost to Hofstra and, well, Texas A&M twice. LSU was so good that they lost to both South Carolina and Mississippi. Kentucky was so good that they lost to Notre Dame. Alabama was so good they lost to Iona. And Davidson. And Missouri. And Georgia. And Texas A&M. And Vanderbilt.

Let's not pretend that those teams were so good that they couldn't be beaten by a team that is good enough to make the NCAA tournament.

I didn't say SEC teams go undefeated. But if your league has 6 teams with a 6 seed or better, its pretty hard for teams not as good as those teams to beat them enough

Right, exactly. For instance it was probably really hard for Iona and Davidson and Missouri and Georgia and Texas A&M to beat Alabama. Oh, and Vanderbilt too. Let's not forget them.

Do you? Would love to hear you analyze the strengths of different conferences.

An average seed of 3.8 is quite a bit better than an average seed of 8.6.

The SEC's average seed has to be somewhere close to an all-time best.

The WCC's was better just last season.

Because it was the greatest basketball league of all time!
I forgot to put the disclaimer of having at least 5-6 teams. You really threw the WCC out there? When you have Gonzaga and only get a couple teams in, that doesn't count. You know that.

I challenge anyone to find a league that has gotten 6+ teams in with a better average seed than the SEC. Maybe its been done. But maybe not. This SEC is one of the all-time best.

Average ranking per conference -
But now another contortion
Log off awhile

Hey! The goal post was over here, and now all of the sudden it's over there!
The Big West had an average seed of 1 with UNLV so that was the greatest conference ever. Don't be an idiot. You know what I meant. Gonzaga and friend(s) doesn't count.

Now go find a better average seed than the SEC. It might take awhile.
