Honestly, his career has been one of the biggest mysteries to me. Considering how dominant he was on the WORLD stage on the US age group teams, its hard to fathom how he never could even grow into a USL-level player, much less, a MLS player, much less a world superstar that many international scouts thought he'd be. I mean a kid that dominant in the U15s and U17s, worst case scenario, you'd think, ok, well if he speaks early, maybe he'll just be a regular MLS dude, a spot starter or reserve on the USMNT.....but at only 30 years old, he wouldn't even make the Riverhounds. That said, if you were the Riverhounds.....wouldn't you give him a shot and sell a few tickets?

There were rumors that he was much older than his Ghanaian birth certificate said. Perhaps a Danny Almonte-type situation and that would seem to make sense. I mean the other stuff you hear about him not working hard enough, not being consistent, etc.....I mean if you are dominating future world stars when you are a teenager, I dont care if you give soccer up completely for a few years, you gotta at least be USL level. Just doesnt add up

I’d say they threw him to the wolves too early. He needed way more time to develop. He is as 14 when he was identified. They rushed him out there to make a big deal of him, when he really should have been in training until about 18 years old. He also came through at a time MLS was half of what it was and the USMNT was starting to get something going.
He was not given enough guidance. That 13 or 14 year old chick out west who signed a pro contract better be well taken care of. Women especially change dramatically from 13-17.

Freddy was only 14, if that really was true, but his body was 20 yrs old. He was great against 14-16 year olds, but he never got any bigger, any stronger, or any faster. All the other 16 yr olds passed him by.

Forget Freddie! Pulisic was awesome yesterday. He got behind Saltzburg’s backs three times in the 1st 25 minutes, scoring twice and drawing a PK for a 3rd goal. I’m not sure what the Saltzburg backline was doing but Christian did what a world class winger does. He’s only 20 and will have a much tougher time doing that against EPL defences...but he at least looks good enough to start next week vs Man U in the season opener.

He was 14 mentally. He was pushed too early. He truly needed time to develop and time to learn the game. They forced him far too early.

Take a former player like Michael Owen. Absolutely world class. He was groomed and didn’t hit the stage until 18. He was not pushed at 14 or 15, but completely groomed and trained to become a world class player for England. England and many other countries identify early but groom the player until they truly believe he is ready.

Adu was 14 when he hit the scene and they pushed him straight to the wolves.

Pulisic is a different player than Adu. He was treated far better than Adu because they learned their lessons with guys like Adu.

This is exactly what I wonder about Olivia Moultrie, the 13 year old chick, I wonder how are they so sure she's that great yet? She should of played as an amateur a few more years IMO, especially since women's pro soccer isn't that lucrative outside the USWNT. IMO if she doesn't end up a USWNT star, she'll be pretty screwed up as she's devoting 110% of her life to soccer, she's even being home schooled so she can train every available minute since like age 10. So if she peaked early and isn't that great at age 18, she's already lost college eligibility, I suppose she'll have some money saved up.

As for Adu, if he's out of shape, he should play indoor soccer, in the MASL, Landon Donovan and Jermaine Jones played there last year, I'd love to see him with the Baltimore Blast, with his skill in the small space, I bet he'd dominate, it's only the size of a hockey rink, so fitness is less of an issue. Donovan did really well, even at age 38.

6 weeks isn't that long ago.

Newspapers are going out of business because 12-24 hours is too long, magazines are going out of business because no one wants to wait a week for a story, and you think that six weeks isn't "long ago" for a story like that?

Wow.

It isn't, it's probably among the most current Adu information. Plus if it was his first time seeing it, it's current enough to be considered new. Do you need more info about what Adu's youth team has done the last 2 weeks, is that's what's bothering you? Six weeks old, pretty much still the current status of Adu.

A SIX WEEK OLD ARTICLE can be most current depending on the topic. Has Adu been signed by any other teams, have you stayed on top of the story if you are so adamant we be totally up to date? Tell us, what did Adu have for breakfast this morning? Dinner from yesterday is old news in the 24 hour news cycle.

You really can be dense sometimes. Or is it most of the time?

A NEW article on Adu may have told us if he had signed with someone or perhaps was in talks with someone. An article that's six weeks old isn't new news, no matter what subject it's about. The fact that someone didn't read the story when it came out doesn't make it new, it means that SMF was uninformed about this all important topic for six weeks.

Just out of curiosity, if you read something tomorrow about some aspect of the Civil War that you hadn't heard before would that make it new news too? Or is there some sort of statute of limitations on how old something can be before you no longer consider it new?

That's a stupid analogy, what else is stupid is you nitpicking over the age of an article. It pretty much is the newest Freddy Adu information, except for the Baltimore Sun article about him that is two weeks OLD, but with nothing new to report. Jesus Christ, you're just looking for some dumb reason to nitpick.

I mentioned it in another thread awhile back, but I went to one Lights game last year and saw Freddy Adu play. There was a lot of pub in the LV papers when he joined the team, but he never really seemed to get started.

This is what I cant understand. Adu cant make a USL team which isnt that far above the ACC. Would he even start for Pitt?
