As several have observed, this game could have been comfortably won in regulation if the guys had been shooting their FTs with their normal accuracy. I wonder if the reason for the poor percentage (under 50%) was just an off night or if fatigue from their tremendous effort had something to do with it?

Fatigue should not have been a factor in the first half misses but it, coupled with the monkey on their back that they were trying to shake loose of in the 2nd half may have been-? Perhaps?

Whatever the case--it was a great, gutsy win last night!

It's both. But consider that they essentially play a 7-deep rotation, with a +1 of Kham Davis, so the kids are getting a ton of minutes. Add in their ultra-aggressive defensive style - which is basically required if they're going to have a chance at winning - and they're going to be tired and have more trouble from the line. Trey and X are good FT shooters, so I'm not really worried about them. It was just an off night. I don't expect Brown, Chuka, or Malik to ever be really solid from the line.

Malik needed to just make 1 of 2 free throws to win the game. Misses both! Capel should make them all shoot 500 FTs each at practice today.

Who else was shocked when Malik took and MADE that "toes on the line, almost 3-point shot" last night. Most of his baskets will come in the paint or at the hoop most likely.

Most of them can shoot them, just think they're gassed. Just need a little more experience.

My god, I thought for sure we were going to lose because of it. If we even shoot a pedestrian 60% from the line, we win going away.

I noticed a glitch in the UNC game as well. I just checked and Pitt was 20/32 from the line which is less than 63% in the UNC game. I wish I had stats by halves in that game I bet the team shot better from the line in the 2nd half when the game was out of hand.

FWIW
No doubt as mentioned above fatigue played a factor but in both games, but Pitt started out poorly from the line. I really believe that self imposed pressure to prove they belong was a factor and that as they play more ACC games the team will return to being good from the line.

I’d make them shoot 500 threes instead. They are worth three times as much.
