Friday baseball - Pitt 0, Notre Dame 0, after 1 1/2 innings ****

Wotherspoon got into a jam with two ND baserunners, but escaped damage with Pazos' replacement, Parry, threw ND's Bull out at third.

Hitless top of the 3rd for Pitt, still knotted at 0.

Both Johnson & Frabasilio took contact on during basestealing attempts during bottom 2, didn't look too serious.

Wotherspoon got the 1-2-3 inning to close out the 3rd. Flyout, Strikeout, Strikeout, for those interested.

Zip, all. Should be the top of order in the 4th.

Yea, we got a hit finally!!!!!

But still haven't scored in 13 straight innings against the ACC's worst baseball team!

At least Wotherspoon is rolling - 2nd straight 1-2-3 inning.

This time he struck 2 (both swinging) & got the final batter to ground out.

5 K's through for 4 for Spoon.

Wotherspoon continues his efficiency with a third straight 1-2-3 inning.

Didn't miss the bats much (2 groundouts & a flyout), but he's doing a heck of a job out there keeping Pitt in there.

Zip through 5.

Spoon allows a baserunner, but strikes out Craig's son (4th batter of the inning) to get out of the 6th.

2 strikeouts for spoon (1 looking, 1 swinging) - 7 total through 6. Impressive stuff from Matt.

Zilch all.

Another single brings in a run for the Fighting Irish and, with that, Wotherspoon is removed.

Danielcyzk coming in with 2 on, 1 out.

Notre Dame, 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th.

Jon eases the club through a pivotal point in the game with inning ending strikeout.

1-0, Notre Dame after 7.

C'mon, bats!

Frabasilio called out looking, Johnson is the third stranded Panther of the evening.

Hate to drop the series (and the tournament berth) over two shutouts...

Danielcyzk out to start the bottom of the 8th.

Danielcyzk does an admirable job limiting further damage.

Top of the order, for our postseason lives in the top of the 9th.

Casey got a clutch base hit to move Yarnall to 3rd with a 1 out. Roche advance to 2nd on the grounder that reached the outfield down the first base line.

Vazquez ground out and Hess swinging SO as PH ends the game and damages our chance for post-season ball.

Back to back shutouts. Tough to take.

When you have been shutout 2 straight games and in a complete hitting funk how can you not send the runner from third on contact with the one out grounder to 2nd. You need to force them to make that play.
