@SaxMan4L: if Pat Narduzzi were to go to State College for lunch, where do you think he would stop?

I’m admittedly not familiar with State College’s culinary scene, having only been there once in my life. Being a small town, though, doesn’t mean a place lacks good restaurants, even if the sheer number of options isn’t as great as it is in a larger city; college towns, in particular, typically have some really cool and eclectic spots.

Since James Franklin walked by an iconic Oakland restaurant like The O, I’ll say Narduzzi would hit up the one place I went to while on Penn State’s campus — the famous Berkey Creamery (which is really good). If nothing else, and for symbolic purposes, he could order a scoop of the Peachy Paterno and throw it in the trash on his way out before even taking a bite.

I'm told the paturdo ice cream gives you the poops...

I haven't been there for a while, but for a quick meal we'd go to "Ye Olde College Diner". It was respectable, and those "big stickie" buns that they're known for are good.

They used to have a good pizza place called Vesuvio's.

Also, they had a cool bagel joint based off the iconic Bagel Street Deli in Athens, Ohio, but I think both of those places are long gone by now.

I'm sure there are some good spots there but it's obviously nothing like Pittsburgh – which is just a much better place to live for all kinds of reasons, not the least of which are all of the culinary options that exist here – Including the Dirty O.

I lived there for a year. The culinary options weren't great.

I liked the place in toftrees....

Can't be near State College without going to Olde New York Restaurant, not far from the Stadium. I park there and walk to the Stadium and after the Game walk back and avoid all Traffic after Dining.

Alternatives is Hofbrau in Bellefonte about 15 Miles away. Bellefonte is County Seat and Courts. it used to be in the Bush Hotel before it burned down.

In addition, The Governors' Pub, is not bad for a Great Burger & Beer and celebrates the history of the seven U.S. governors and five governors of Pennsylvania who have come from Bellefonte. It gets more interesting too because that is the barbershop location and claims Frederick Douglass once got a Haircut there. It was owned and operated by an African-American man by the name of William H. Mills whose four grandsons grew up to form a vocal group called The Mills Brothers great musical acts. The four original members were born and raised in Ohio, but it all starts in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.

Breakfast or Lunch Towards Penn State:
When going to this years Pitt-Penn State Game, stop at The Dream Restaurant in Hollidaysburg, County Seat for Blair County right near Altoona. You won't regret it! If there is a big line wait, go a block away to The Historic US Hotel and if you like History, you will love it.

All can be Googled!

American Alehouse. Pretty good craft selection. Also in Toftrees is the restaurant at the Carnegie Inn. Very good. Champs is a good sportsbar/barfood place with a good craft selection.

I've been there a couple times. They have a calzone place called DP Dough that I have to admit is fantastic! Also, they have a drink at The Darkhorse called Tantos Demise. A mix of 6 liquors including 151....tastes like Hawaiian Punch. You're fine one drink, then next you're absolutely sloppy.

Love DP Dough. Had that at my college as well. Last time I was near one I took a BBQ steak and drop zone through TSA so I could enjoy at home. Someday I may bring a franchise to Chicago...they kill around colleges

The Mills Brothers were all born in Piqua, Ohio, near Dayton.

I only ever had the Chicken Parmazone. I could eat 3 of them. I'm glad someone else knows the pleasure of DP Dough....lol

Pack a lunch from Primanti's.

Spent Lot of time in that cesspool. Great real Pizza and Pasta at Faccia Luna. They also have a location in Old Town Alexandria VA. where I lived before returning to the Burgh.

I sure as Hell wouldn't be the Lasch building!

The Ye Old College Diner place sucks. The ice cream creamery is overrated. Compare the ingredients of their vanilla with the ingredients to Ben and Jerry's vanilla and you can easily see which version is the real deal. The two best food options in State College are the Austrian restaurant and Wegmans.

If you are going to the Creamery in State College you definitely need to get the "Sandusky Blitz". It is vanilla ice cream with shaved chocolate sprinkles on top. No seller!
