From the Pitt News on recruiting

Wish for transfers in one hand and s**t in the other, see which one fills up first.

It's a kid, and I think and hope kids don't have the same cynicism as someone who has seen 5-6 decades of disappointments. So on that note, it was fine.

But it was pollyanna and again, as Wannstash and some others just don't want to admit, Capel is "expired". He has nothing to sell. Nothing. And that is why staff changes were absolutely crucial if he truly wants to turn this thing around. Because none of these guys, 4 of them, now can sell any hope, because they have a 4 year resume of under achievement and losses, both on and off the court.

At least a couple of new assistants, like with Ewing and Georgetown, perhaps they have some relationships with current recruits/players that they could have brought them with Pitt.

Now? Sorry. I am not being negative. THAT IS REALITY, It is what it is.

This is a reboot on the confidence game he ran a years ago when his HS recruiting began to completely dry up, and they got the message out that they were focusing on 2022 kids, and were in really good shape for a big class, which netted ... no HS recruits at all.

Now, the sell is that they are going to reboot and join every other school in going into the transfer market, and people are buying it like they did the big class of 2022.

I am sure he will get some transfers, but it will be primarily be the picked over turkey bones.

Read an article in SI yesterday about the new Duke coach and how it happened. I cannot recall an article where the person and his family members seemed to express a lot of doubt about Scheyer’s ability to handle the job. It just seemed like none of them thought he would be the selection and that he has a really difficult time handling disappointment. It wouldn’t shock me one bit if he did not have success.

K’s coaching tree has not had a ton of success and I wonder if that is because he was just so controlling and his underlings were just head nodding minions?

So it does not seem surprising that Capel seems to be unprepared for what it actually takes to coach college basketball. I honestly do not think that K taught his staff much of anything.

Exactly, this is a tough reality to swallow but it is the reality of Pitt hoops right now. Some on this board however always have the gold colored glasses on and snap at any mention of just how embarrassing this program is right now but sadly it is what it is like you said

I don't remember specifically why, but I do remember not liking the thought of it when Scheyer's name came up as a replacement for Stallings.

Though, I was SUPER stoked about Capel, so there is that.
