2020
I was bored this morning and researched Pitt's future scheduling. It's still unfathomable to me how unnecessarily challenging these future schedules "appear" to be. I say that knowing that you never know when you'll catch some of these power 5 teams in a down year. Many major FBS teams are not taking on two power 5 schools in the non-conference in the same year, let alone including a notoriously competitive Cincy team. I'm all for the challenge of winning the games put before you, and wanting to play with anybody, but you don't see Big Ten teams playing this schedule. Cupcakes help the end of season result and nobody looks back and says well, that 10 win year was 30% cupcakes. It's considered a hard fought 10-win season.
I'd also say that if recruiting comes through where Pitt is winning 9-10 games with regularity, then you can go and schedule these non-conference teams. I get that these schedules help sell season tickets, but I'd bet wins will sell more.
