Game Thoughts

Well, it's a hell of a lot better to win a nail biter then to lose. That game was WAAAY closer then it should have been, but I'll take any victory at this point.

A few game thoughts:

1. I really like Moss. The kid runs hard, cuts hard, and makes people miss. Right now he is our most effective runner.

2. Weah finally showed that he's a WR not just a track guy. He made some really nice catches.

3. Price was a beast again. We really better find someone to replace him next year, because he IS our pass rush.

4. Terrish Webb simply stinks.

5. Bam Bradley missed a bunch of tackles.

6. Was Gallambos in the game? Goal line stance and he is not even on the screen.

7. The refs must not know the definition of holding.

8. We finally played to win, as opposed to avoiding a loss.

9. Winning was great, but keep this in perspective. That was Marshall.....and oh by the way, we were winning by 27 at the half.

Some additional perspective-- Today UNC beat Florida State 37-35 and Ok State beat Texas 49-31. We aren't nearly as bad as some of the hand wringers on this board think we are. reading this board you would think we are as awful as those consecutive 1-9 teams coached by Dave Hart in the late 1960s that this Pitt Old Timer suffered through as a student!!

Me, too. And you couldn't even turn to the Stillers for good football then because they were just as bad.

Yes I was there for many of the disasters. Fans are impressed with Al Bundy scoring 4 TD's in 1 game, I had the misfortune to sit at Pitt Stadium and watch Bill Wolski of ND fame scored 6 TD's in 1 game against Hart's Panthers. UCLA showed no mercy in an opener against QB D. Havern and his white shoes in LA, may have been 1967, Bruins put up about 70 points or so. I was present and accounted for on that mismatch, 50 years later and the nightmare remains.

My thought- uniforms looked great last night. Still could improve, like adding the stripe on the pants. But overall the classic gold/navy/gold combo looked very nice.

Some game thoughts:
--I thought we were fortunate that Marshall's coach was so conservative in the first half. They had a couple of 4th and very shorts near midfield that I was surprised they didn't go for -- and very happy they didn't go for.

--The Pitt fake FG had to have looked fishy to Marshall from the start. I thought Pitt should have just gone for it on 4th down from that field position -- to be attempting a 51-yard FG there just didn't feel right.

--Great to see Weah have a big game, but he makes you hold your breath as he juggled several of his passes before he secured them.

--I was surprised and then delighted by the call on our last offensive play. But what a risky call - especially to Jester. I guess the coaches and the QB are gaining confidence in Jester -- as is Jester...

--Orndoff and Henderson made big catches on 3rd downs to keep the final drive alive. Without those catches, pretty good chance we lose. Orndoff's, in particular, was a sensational catch as he was diving to the ground. That's a big body to be diving.

--I watched Maddox on a couple of plays at the beginning of the second half and he totally blanketed his man. I can see how Coach Duzz's defense is supposed to work, but one "slip up" by a DB and the other team's band is playing. And you better have 4 really good cover DBs.

--I thought our Dline played like they were gassed in the second half. We are really missing Hendrix at DE. And I don't know how much Caprara played - I saw him on the sidelines without a helmet in the second half - but he does manage to make some plays so he also was missed. So we had starters Hendrix, Zeise, Caprara and Whitehead missing...

--Seemed like Bam had a rough game, or at least several rough plays...

-- Henderson is fun to watch and a true weapon. Still need to get him the ball more in the passing game.
