Doesn't look good for us. 3 fresh cyrstal balls to VT. If true, they are locking up one hell of a class.

I don't understand it too well, but I think he just committed to VaTech again via twitter.

This sucks.
I guess after they visited, they went home and the very next day VT coaches had in homes with he and Proctor. They must have counteracted any progress the Duzz made with them. Not done till its official tho. I am still counting on the Duzz to deliver, he will get a capable replacement!

I can guarantee that coach Fuente reminded these kids of a sea of yellow at Heinz Field.

I mention this because some posters on this board refuse to acknowledge that this is a significant problem and justify this by comparing us to Miami and Southern Cal.

Anybody looking at this objectively would compare our situation more to Boston College than to Southern Cal.

Pitt football checks all the boxes except for this one. If we can't figure out a way to fill up Heinz Field I don't see how we will consistently get top shelf recruits.

Which translates into a 9 win program at best instead of 11 wins or beyond.......

Fuente is dong some real damage on the recruiting trail, and unfortunately he's working basically the same turf that we are.

Or maybe Fuente reminded these kids who won?

DE Robert Porcher just committed to VaTech which puts them at 26 commits counting Proctor but not counting Garbutt.

I saw that. I wonder how many they can take? They just got that Ped St. decommit but I think he was a linebacker. Pretty sure they will find room for Garbutt if he wants to go there.

Something about they can sneak some of their early enrollees into last years class, but only x many....there's a loophole to taking over 25, i forget.

Early enrollers can count for the previous recruiting class the year before

Fuente is a very good recruiter then you throw in Bud Foster and its a defense dynamic duo. PITT will get a few of the kids VT is looking at, but its not a good sign when you are hoping they can't take anyone else so you can get someone you both are looking at.

I feel dumb for thinking we were gonna land Garbutt. They're gonna beat us most of the time we go head to head for a prospect from their home turf. They've been a better program since these kids were born and unless that changes they'll win most recruiting battles against us.

Yes. In the end it is all about how many people come not the coaches, education, chance to get to the pros and facilities.

looks like some PITT coaches will be in home with Garbutt today and Narduzzi harley and powell will be at Proctors highschool and then will have an in home visit. Hopefully its a good last push for both of those guys

1. Pitt beat VTech often during these kids lifetime, we are 6-2 vs VTech since 2001.

2. I go to Blacksburg often for work... the place is a not Pittsburgh, not even close. Basically middle of nowhere, has a main drag with bars and whatnot, but hardly the options Pittsburgh has. It is nicer than Morgantown, but it isnt a draw at all.

3. Pitt is ranked ahead of VTech scholastically in almost every regard.

4. They have received 6 verbals from DEs or LBs. If Garbutt commits there that is 7... no way they all play, some will transfer out. These kids are local to there, so I see the draw, but long term, half these kids will regret it.

5. Even with a great defense, they will be hurting on offense, and most likely wont challenge for a championship next season.

1. Yes Pitt has done well head-to-head but overall VT has been better for the last 15 years.

2. Most college kids, especially football-playing males, don't care about entertainment options beyond finding a place to party on Saturday night with some girls to hook up with. VT offers that.

3. This is a point in our favor.

4. Pitt has received 5 verbals from DEs/ LBs, so it's not a huge difference there.

5. Agreed.

VA Tech did what Pitt needed to do, and that was go to the conference Championship game. They put themselves in a better position for recruiting.
Indeed. Some will point to the Clemson game and it was nice, but in some ways it underscored that Pitt SOP'd in other more winnable games (UNC, OSU, VT, NW, especially the latter). Duz is avoiding the real dog sh*t losses of his predecessors so far, and that helps immensely, but time for the elusive Next Level.

Good to know- also, DE Guy Thomas still seems to be very much in the the picture as a possible pick up for Pitt. And what a nice pick up that would be.

On a separate note... Not sure it's worth getting too up or down about 24/7 crystal ball predictions... most of us are familiar with a recent highly rated DE recruit who - according to almost all of their "in the know" crystal ball analysts - was a lock to come to Pitt... and then of course he went to another school.

And if people still want to give credibility to the latest crystal ball predictions, know that the most recent prediction for Proctor is someone who thinks he's headed to Pitt.

You just never know what's going on in a player's mind from day to day. One thing we do know (which has been proven) is that Narduzzi and staff have been pretty good at swaying recruits who are on the fence - especially those who come to visit Pitt close to signing day.

and had you read my post, you would see that I correctly stated that Pitt checks all the boxes.....except the box for attendance.

VT flipped Rivers from PSU the other day, I see that proctor and Rivers are really good friends. I wonder if they will end up at the same position. Big home visit w/narduzzi tonight.

Is anyone on here ever happy ?
We just go to two 4 star transfers (browne and carter) and several flips. So what if we don't get garbutt, proctor, or anyone else mentioned. Keep in mind PSU and Clemson both out recruited PItt but got the "L" and that's what counts.
And people like Las Panteras the solution to the yellow seats is people like you going to the games instead of staying home and talking about who else didn't go.

So......you are suggesting the sea of yellow at HF has little impact on trying to elevate Pitt football

Glad you don't pick my stock investments........

And Pitt has won the majority of h2h matchups with them. Program history and season results mean more than what you did h2h....which is another reason I get pissed when all these posters get so hung up on the outcome of the PSU game. They had a better year and kicked our ass recruiting, that's what matters.

I have a feeling we will be in the 20's by the time Narduzzi is done next week...at least I hope so. And having all these eligible 4/5 star transfers this coming fall (Brown, the TE, Carter) could give us the topshelf talent injection the doctor ordered...

Hell no. Are anyone but Clemson fans happy right now?

We were actually pretty close to having an exemplary season last year. Even one or two better D players might have stopped even one of those umpteen UNC 4th downs, or avoided even one of OSU big plays, or hurried the QB or blocked a pass or two vs VT.

It's not gonna ruin my day, none of this junk does, but losing a guy we wanted to a common opponent is definitely annoying, a double whammy, actually. It's in very very small print (vs, say, a high gas bill) , but it goes in the "unhappy" column on my list.

Well, I agree with these points, but I think Pitt has plenty more places to go and girls to meet... you have so many universities in the area, and far more people in general.
