Girls hoops doubled up 74-37 …Lance continues

At the end of the 3rd quarter Pitt had scored 23 points.

Florida State scored 30 points in the 3rd quarter alone.

Pitt shoots 20% in the first, 10% in the second, 11% in the third and a smokin' 22% in the fourth. Total for the game, 12-76 from the field, 15.8%. 4-26 on threes, 15.4%.

Pitt made 12 baskets all game. Florida State blocked 12 Pitt shots.

Florida State didn't even shoot the ball all that well, 38% overall and 29% from three, and they only outrebounded Pitt by six (Pitt's rebounding percentage numbers were actually better, but Pitt missed a lot more shots), and Florida State only turned the ball over two fewer times than Pitt. And still won by 37.

Pitt women made 12 buckets and missed 64 shots. Yikes. Three starters failed to score a bucket. Double yikes!

Go Pitt.

And not just failed to score because they didn't take a lot of shots. That was a combined 0-18. And a fourth starter was 1-6.

The fifth starter, Avery Strickland, was pretty much unconscious at 3-12 overall, 3-8 on threes.

Yup, unconscious." Too funny.
Some of these stats are
beyond believable. We were
an unheard of; 15.8% FG's,
and almost as unheard of
15.4% on threes. Also in the
unheard of category ( as
you pointed out ), was
the number of blocks, 12
to be exact. I'll have my
Spalding Burger with fries.

I could see the frustration
level on our players' faces.
I'm not gonna beat up White
in this post. FlA ST is a whole
diffferent talent level, and we
haven't even played ND and
Duke yet. Maybe we have a
chance vs BC or GT.

I was going to comment on the OP's use of the term "girls", but maybe that was indeed girls against women.

Yes got word Lance will get the axe 🪓. Overall great person but business is business H2P !!!!

Well, if this is in fact real,
it comes as no surprise.
The one thing I saw as a
positive was his ability to
have these young women
work hard, hustle, and
seemingly care for their
team mates and the program.

I've criticized his stradegies,
substiting methods, and his
initial helter skelter approach
when he lacked the talent
to do so. I also stated that
he reccruited on an A-10
level and his players were
severely overmatched in the
ACC ( IMO,the TOP womens
NCAA conference). This was
evident in the non league
wins they would get prior to
league play. I hope he lands
on his feet. Anyone know if
there's a buyout?

Saw Marley Washenitz was in the Zoo last night right behind Kenny. Seems like a good kid. I'm pulling for her.

Women's basketball is really tough to crack the upper echelons. Takes a lot of time and patience. But there is better local girls talent than boys here, so there is no reason to be a bottom dwellar. Surprised Lance was so bad, but I think you need someone with head coach experience in P5/G6, or at least someone that is a bulldog in recruiting and can get these locals to stay home (Shadyside supposedly has some up & coming talent)

Well, Pitt basketball definitely has a connection at Shady Side Academy.

White has been a dead man walking for quite a while and it has been more a matter of when. not if. And deservedly so as the program continues to redefine ineptitude.

And you are right. there are more ladies local talent this program should be able to tap into. It is a mystery to me. I've said it before if Suzie couldn't get it done, I don't think anyone can.

A really depressing thought.

she was the "home run" hire that wasn't. We're not the only ones, doesn't get more Hank Aaron than Nebraska with Scott Frost.

The thing with Suzie she never coached a P5 program. Wildly successful in high school, decent (not great) in the WNBA & Duquesne. Maybe the leap to the ACC was too much. When the girl from Oakland Catholic (name escapes me) transferred out you knew something was wrong and Suzie's days were numbered. If someone in your wheelhouse doesn't want to stay, there are huge problems. Hiring her sister probably not a great idea either.

As I said, women's basketball seems like a really tough nut to crack. I thought Agnes had it going here with the sweet 16 finish. Then it all started to unwrap when the sister of Mercedes Walker (I think) who was a top prospect decommitted shortly after the Sweet 16 game. I thought it was very odd at the time but kind of foreshadowed the rest of Agnes's tenure, which went down from there.

Definitely a swing and a miss for Heather as this was her doing. Needs to fix this soon. Lot's of up & coming local talent that they need to sign in the coming years that can breath some life into this program

When Suzie was hired, I thought that she was a lock - a sure thing - to develop a solid program. Does anyone know what went wrong? Was it insufficient financial support for the program, or was it her?

idk, maybe we thought the high school success would translate to college success? She was okay at Duquesne, not great. As I posted above when someone from Oakland Catholic decides to leave the program you know there is something not right with the coach.

Too much drama with Suzie and her sister. Conflicts between parents etc and I'll just leave it at that. Very unfortunate situation H2P

So, rumoror false? Is
White fired or is he still
here?

I'm pretty sure what he was trying to say was that he was going to get fired, not that he was fired now. It really wouldn't make much sense to fire him today (especially since they are playing a game right now!).

Washenitz and Avery Strickland are at almost all the men's games sitting together. Last night Strickland was sitting three seats to Washenitz's left. Amber Brown was also there, sitting to the right of Washenitz, and I'm pretty sure Sandrine Clesca was sitting in the row behind them. There may have been a couple others there as well, but since they are in front of me I didn't get a good look at some of the other people sitting in that group.

Pitt just crumbled under like a 26-5 run over the course of 10 mins

Ahead 44-39 with 30 seconds left in the 3rd. Outscored over the last 10:30 of the game 33-13.

33 points allowed in 10:30 of game time. That is almost unbelievable. Almost.

I'm glad I didn't go down tonight, because sitting through that would have been worse than the Clemson debacle.

Yes and No.Berenato came in and turned things around fairly quick. It can be done.Pitt hadn’t seen back to back sweet sixteens before then or since. What one ncaa appearance since?

Yes, " it can be done"
by Pitt. Get the right
coach and for sure it
will happen. Volleyball,
Womens soccer and mens
soccer are IMO all good,
examples. Ok, I admit
volleyball was always ok.
Was it ever an annual
top 10 team making it to
the NCAA's annually?
Soccer was.... basically
nothing here. Just look at
the coaches now of these
programs. NCAA"s, Final
Fours....gee whiz I wonder
why?

We hired an assistant coach
from a successful program.
Yeah I know I know......so was
Duzz in football. Difference is
Duzz was a very successful
co ordinator, clearly has
extensive klnowledge and
and was very experienced in
football. He also was in demand
for other head coaching jobs.
White? As far as I'm concerned
he's in way over his head. They
made a mistake with hiring
him. Their next hire should be
an experienced head coach who
can recruit. I'm not from Pittsburgh
don't live in western Pa, but I know
Pittsburgh is a school, in a city
that would attract top athletes.
NO?.....then tell me why top
volleyball players come from
California to play here. Top
soccer players from Europe? It's
the coach .....at a great school,
and in a great city.
