Hey, I think it is a good idea to create a gofundme.com site for James. I know friends of mine used this in the past and is a great way to raise money. Anyone know if it is allowed under NCAA rules? (yeah, it is obviously the right thing to do, but just asking)... and does anyone better at this than I am know how to do it?

What does he need it for? His medical care is completely paid for.

Well for family to stay with him during treatment. Loss time at work. There are all kinds on incidental cost involved. However this must be coordinated through the school and can't just be done through a regular go fund me page. He probable won't need it because the NCAA does have funds to help out with things like this.

Geez, I dont even know where to begin to answer that question. My coworker here his wife has stage 4 cancer... they need it for a slew of things, too many to even name. In James case, I can think of second opinions, deductible cost, family issues, dietary needs, transportation cost... can you imagine being in college and having to battle stage 2 cancer??? Being in college is tough enough, I know I lived on ramen noodles and tuna. I couldnt imagine having to go through chemo and everything else involved.

How did you afford tuna that's would have been a spluge for me. LOL!
Very nice idea you're a good person!
I'm no sure how the PITT kids are covered sometimes deductibles, co pays, treatments you want and your carrier might only pay a certain %. Travel for relatives / family to visit the person, etc.

And something like a gofundme campaign might violate about a dozen NCAA rules. We have to be careful about this kind of thing.

Hi all. EJ, being the great guy that he is, sent me an answer to my question.

"Marty, how are you? Hope all has been well! I appreciate the question and outreach. Expenses for James and his family related to his treatments are being covered through the Athletic Department’s student-athlete insurance policy as well as the NCAA’s Student Assistance Fund. So that's covered. People can, however, send their well wishes through cards, gift baskets, etc. Does that insight help? Best wishes to you and your family, Marty!"
