Right. That's what I've seen. So I'm perplexed how you consider this so disruptive that it warrants being called a "thug."
It's not so much hyperbole, as absolute confusion that so many people (not necessarily anyone here, though deepelemblues is close) think this is at all appropriate behavior.
Her actions warranted a cop getting involved, that to me, is a thug. Ill guess our definitions differ
To support your argument, here is a section from the LA Times, not exactly a conservative paper:
"At least three students who were in the classroom at Spring Valley High said the teacher tried to discipline the unidentified student for looking at her phone.
When the student refused to leave class, the teacher called in a vice principal. When the student refused the vice principal's request to leave, officials called in the deputy, Fields, who also helps coach the school's football team.
In one video, the deputy can be seen telling the student sitting at her desk, "You either come with me, or I'm going to make you."
In a second video posted on Instagram, the student can be seen lifting her arm defensively as the deputy physically tries to remove her from her desk.
The deputy then wraps his arm around her neck from behind in a headlock and tries to lift the student by one of her legs. As the deputy struggles with the student, the desk flips backward onto the ground with the student still sitting in it, the video shows.
The desk then crashes into another desk and nearly hits another student, who appears to be shocked at what she is witnessing. The deputy drags the first student, who is still entangled in the desk, and throws her across the classroom, the two videos show.

saw that she's an orphan as of last week. they act out. it's not surprising. none of us knows what that's like and how you would react. most have a lot of trauma. subtlety. it's not black and white. to think you'd make better choices in their shoes is very judgmental and flat out stupid.
Yep, I don't like what the guy did but this girl cannot be allowed to hold the class hostage. Parenting in her life is probably pretty bad.
Not going to lie here folks, this orphan news, recently deceased mother, has me changing my minds a bit.. Feel free to throw egg in my face here for making a judgement prior to knowing all the facts (because no one else does it here).. Couldn't possibly imagine losing a parent or both at a young age and won't pretend to say how I would act in that circumstance.. For some reason, older I get, the idea of children growing up with such pain really effects me, moreso than it should.. Hearing or seeing children who've lost a parent breaks my heart. I'll chalk this up to a learning lesson folks.

Did you ever box? It is best to throw a few jabs first to see how the fight is going before you start loading up haymakers, because when you miss with the haymaker you end up looking pretty foolish spinning around striking at air.

I never boxed.. Been awhile since I've been in a fight. My best moment (or worst) was at a bar in Morgantown when I was a freshman, bar was called Shooters.. Frat dude was all over my buddy's girl, I of course had the beer muscles going. we get into it, blah blah blah. So he has his whole damn frat there, I have about 8 or 9 friends on the football team, we are all 18, 19, years old.. I go up to him pull him down and take the biggest swing of my life, completely miss, end up throwing another couple weak punches and the next thing I know, I get a cue stick broken over my head. All hell breaks loose, it was like a scene from an old western or one of those Cheesy Burt Reynolds movies..
Funny thing is, we all get kicked out and we walk across the street to another bar called Speedys and ended up drinking together..
i need to learn from you libs and withhold judgement til all the facts come in. Freeport, dop, ski, you guys never make up your mind on something until both sides present their cases and your political views never persuade your opinion. Roflmao
why is ben carson a thug again?? On an unrelated note, just saw a video of a black kid, ,slam a 62 year old teacher for taking his cell phone in the classroom.. Completely ridiculous, unless of course he is an orphan, then it is justified.. I just hope the student didn't hurt his fist while striking the teacher or the local naacp chapter will obviously scream racism.
Being a teacher would SUCK.. Any comments I've made about this being easy, summers off,etc. I take back. God Bless them for having to deal with today's youth. Scary stuff.

No need. My position was never to absolve the student for being a pain in the ass to her teacher. She absolutely should have complied. But the assault from the cop was completely unwarranted. My issue with you was that you leapt to call her a thug. Yeah she was disruptive, but there are many types of disruptive and this instance wasn't one where she should be slapped to the ground and yanked out of her desk.

Maybe? My advice to the other fellow was he usually jumps in all the way from the get go. He had this kid branded as a thug, and deserving of everything the cop dished out.
"the student sounds like a real winner.. Teacher cant kick a student out of the class so they need a watered down cop to get her out, she refuses, this is what happens.. Of course now a lawsuit is coming so cameras in all classrooms from now on.. This problem wouldn't exist if mommy and daddy acted like parents instead of letting kids act like azzholes..

Pretty rough indictment and inflammatory representation, no? Turns out there are extraneous circumstances that may have explained the behavior. In any event, I will never agree that what this cop did to this young girl was in any way shape or form justified, no matter how long we wait...
ski, I think a lot of the reasons behind our disagreements are how we each perceive the word Thug. Honestly, I see this as just another word, not a black or white thing, I compare it to what an older generation would call a "hooligan" or something like that. I mean it. I think you and a couple others have really taken offense to me dropping this term, as some sort of equivalent to the N word.. IMO, a thug has nothing to do with white, black, or whatever. I just think either you see it as way more offensive or I see it as no big deal. Regardless, dropping her on her back like the guy did was out of line..
Every single person that went to Baldwin high school between the years of 1990 - 1999..
