Thanks
Hail To Pitt

Go to Rowlands in strip, sit at the bar, one of a few bars that are hopping on a Saturday at 10am. Get the lobster roll, get a bloody mary, enjoy some good bar ambience, they open it up so you get that inside/outside feel to it.. Cheap cab ride, no more than 10 minutes across river..

hands down...fatheads on souf side. e.careson street, google it. best food-variety-totally Pittsburgh. wings to salads. excellent selection of beers. everything fresh. tell 'em grouchy sent you.

Good call on this. If you are going to south side, hit up Fatheads... if you want to stay in strip, go to Rowlands. If you are coming to North Shore to eat, well turn around, and go back to south side or strip..

Pittsburgh is a foodies dream these days. As indicated plenty to choose from between the Strip and the Stadium. Google is your friend...........................

avoid Atria's at PNC park on gamedays, they run a "gameday" limited menu where they jack up the prices ($13 hamburgers, $6.50 for Coor's light drafts) and the service is terrible.

Honestly if you can narrow down how much you want to spend, what you're looking for (more casual, bar, etc.?) and preferred location, we could give you better rec's. For example if you're looking for downtown there a ton in all price ranges. South Side? Strip?

If you are staying in the strip, go to ELEVEN. Great restaraunt with a little something to meet anyone's taste. If you want more informal, go to their bar that is open air if warm enough with couches and sports on the TVs. Same menu but more relaxed.

I just had Eleven for the first time in August. I never thought a pork chop could be so good.

game starts at 12:30 are you looking to eat before or after? who the hell wants to go to a fancy restaurant at 10 in the morning?

This is a problem your administration needs to address. A Pitt graduate (I assume) is coming to town for the first time in 15 years with a group of friends to see a college football game and wants eating recommendations - and not one suggestion is in Oakland...because no one goes to campus on game days.

I'd suggest Fuel & Fuddle for a meal, then Hemingway's for drinks, because that's fun college stuff...but you'd really need to go out of your way to do campus and the game.

A group of 6 guys looking for a good time before a football game should represent dollars spent in Oakland/campus - you folks are missing out.

I'm taking my wife to the UNC game. She always wants to visit campus and do the college stuff (Hemingways, Peters, repetitive pictures at towers, Cathedral, ect.), which means Ole' Darth needs to stay sober enough to drive to the North Shore.

I understand what you're saying, but there isn't a stadium on campus and probably will never be, so it's a moot point. If your wife has never been to Oakland before, I'd definitely recommend touring the Nationality Rooms and Heinz Chapel. There are quite a number of activities on campus for visitors and returning alumni this weekend given that it's Homecoming Weekend.

Regarding missing revenue on game day, keep in mind that Oakland is an urban school, not just a college town. It is supported year round by all the local industry. It is what it is. Love the Fuel and Fuddle and a new burger restaurant just opened on the corner of Forbes and South Bouquet St. Plus you can never go wrong for lunch or dinner at The Porch at Schenley.

If Lidia's looks as though it's still closed, it's not.

We were there about 10 days ago, and they were having problems getting their customers back, because no one knew that they'd re-opened after their recent construction.
What did they do?

You make a great point. I know that there are times when certain Pitt merchandise can only be found on campus. But the only time that I'm near there is when I go to Phipps Conservatory or to the Carnegie Museum. Once one reaches a certain age, Oakland is no longer a "destination" - except in the dire sense when you need special medical care.

What did they do?
I wish I could be more specific, but I can only say that they did some re-modeling. (I don't go there enough for me to notice the differences.)

Their staff told us that it was closed for a longer time than they'd originally projected that it would be.

Bella Notte in strip is very good. Fantastic sandwiches and good drinks. Very reasonably priced too.

My wife received her Bachelors and advanced degree's from Pitt and lived in Oakland and Shadyside for over a decade while a student and working at the hospitals. She held season tickets all those years. I understand the point is moot to you, but I didn't write the post with you in mind and as you can obviously tell, it's not moot to myself - or my wife (and a large portion of your fan base). I know you'll counter, "There's no space for a stadium and it would cost too much", but it's a moot point (by your definition) - as new stadiums are always being constructed and I think it's a debatable topic regardless.

Pitt may be an urban school, but it's campus is in Oakland. The students live in Oakland. They attend class in Oakland. They go to bars and party in Oakland. The frats/sororities are in Oakland. University sports are all played in Oakland (except the one that really matters), and if you ask any Pitt graduate to think of their college days, they'll think of Oakland - not the North Shore or Downtown.

If everyone is over 21 years of age, I recommend the Rivers Casino All You Can Eat Buffet for $14.99 a person.
