I am hearing some really positive stuff (sans Weaver). Pickett is looking very good and his effort in the offseason is showing off. A little more depth on the online then originally thought. Receivers are dangerous...TE still an issue. Secondary is the real deal and some nice options at LBer.

Tough to say whether we are a better team then last year but I don’t think we are that far off. The Virginia game is really going to determine the success of this year and our chances as coastal conference contender.

Ffrench is going to get plenty of touches and there is definitely a spot for Carter. Defensive coaches are going to have a tough time game planning.

Having depth is something we have not been able to say often in the last 10 years at PITT....So I would say this is a positive.

What's the word on RBs?

I hope everything stated is true (except I, obviously, hope we are better than last year); I really, really do. But I seem to recall hearing what a beast Pickett was in camp last year... and, a few years ago, what a threat Mathews would be in the red zone... and, from Narduzzi himself last year, how Wirginis would be drafted (I know the injury hampered that, and I was as pro-Wirginis as anybody). I feel like you just don't know a whole lot until it counts.

Oh wow, we never hear some really positive stuff out of camp.

Ha ha. Yea no kidding.

The next time someone from a football team says they are having a bad camp will be the first time. What a tired worn out phrase.

And you’re only as good as who you’re working against. Hopefully our guys are better than their guys when they play. We’ll know soon enough.

Yeah. I always enjoy the perspective because unless you're a part of the program, you're probably very limited to what you hear. I can also assure you that players enjoy what the coach says to the media and have fun with it because they know the truth.

Was there a quote from narduzzi that he was down on our Wrs? I think I saw that from dipallos article but could be wrong.

That’d be discouraging if so.

I thought he said something like they're not where they need to be. But then he sort of indicated that he was only saying that because last year he said they were where they needed to be, and it turned out not to be the case. So it was kind of difficult to make sense of.

I think everyone agrees the RBs are taking a step back....no way to repeat last year.

Most of you are missing the fact that we have a new OC that is more progressive.....trust me on this one...our OC last year was not good.

Did I mention the offseason S&C program?
Someone on this board has mentioned it just before every season of the past 3 decades.

And every one of those years, we've also heard quotes going into the season about how focused the seniors are, how they want to leave their legacy, and how awesome our offseason participation, focus and S&C have been. And then we go out and win 5-7 games, and lose a few in embarrassing fashion.

The proof as to the quality of this team, this program, these seniors, these coaches, these players, will come on Saturdays. The rest is the usual lip service.

I don't agree with the tail backs taking a step back. Or I should say they should NOT take a step back.

At least three of them were highly regarded recruits. Our tailbacks last year were fine players, but were hardly Shady or Martin or even Ray or Dion. They got a lotta yards, mainly cuz they had a ton of carries. For sure they made big plays out of it on occasion. Never often enough to make up for the lack of passing game though.

We should expect at least the same proficiency by one or more current crop.

Of course a good bit of that is dependent on the line. But again, we had decent players on the line last year but these guys should be able to at least match them, maybe not possession or even game #1. But not game 12 either.

Now the loss of Aston, I'm not gonna pretend, that's not easily replaced. That guy was a motaur.

As far as Whipple ... sure hope he's as much an upgrade as many are banking on.

As the finance guys say, past performance is not a guarantee of future results. That is industry speak to say that just because past Pitt teams have fallen short that doesn’t mean this one will.

But if you’re hung up on historical patterns, you might recall a QB named Peterman making a totally awesome trick shot video a few years ago. He followed that with the best season for a Pitt QB since Sunseri. Well, a certain Pitt QB named Pickett dropped a trick shot video of his own this Spring. So, get ready for the magic this fall.
