Sagaba Konate tonight. He was able to play most of the game tonight. Here my amateur recruiting thoughts.
He is very well built for a HS junior. He is smooth and very well coordinated for a big kid. He has some explosiveness, but is not a great athlete. He jumps very well off of one foot, but is below average jumping from a stand still off 2 feet. For as well built as he is, he is not overpowering of small players. That is probably because of his lack of post moves. He always puts the ball on the floor when he gets it in the post. He committed many turnovers tonight.
He has a nice stroke for a shot and made most of his free throws tonight. He simply is a work in progress. His hands need to improved and he needs to develop some post moves. He can block shots. But does not have good positioning and court awareness on either side of the floor.
I have to assume that he is a plan B option for Pitt. I cannot see him playing in the ACC in 2 years. He would truly benefit from a post high school year of prep school. Maybe that is the plan to stash him away after high school next year. I know that Minnesota was in to see him last week. Akron was there tonight to look at Malik Miller from Farrell.
I am hoping that we get a post player this class and Spellman next year. Konate after a year in prep school may be an option. If he is our only post recruit next year, I would be disappointed.
