as the year goes forward. JRob was nowhere to be found at crunchtime. Newkirk does not turn the ball over all that much more often than JRob when it's against the better teams. And when he does it's because he is actually trying to make something happen ...not only for himself but his teammates as well.
When JRob is on top of the offense running the show the only way Michael Young get's the ball is 15 feet from the hoop & everyone spreads out for Young to try backing down or squaring up to drive. He never get's the ball in a position to just score off of a dribble drive or good entry pass into the post.
If Newkirk have had half the court minutes that JRob had by this point of his Sophmore season we would see a much more polished Josh. He will always make a few more TO's but w/ it will come w/ all his teammates getting more involved in the offense. If it is not Newkirk driving & then kicking out to a open 3 point shot or driving the lane on a fastbreak to give Young a great bounce pass for a uncontested Slam off a 2 on 2 fastbreak after Newkirk drew both defenders to himself we rarely see any spontaneous scoring as a result of JRob. Defense's have seen this for 3 years now...they are playing us accordingly when JRob is at the Point. He threatens no one in the ACC as a offensive PG & his defense does not intimidate the ACC PG's either.
This was another OOC season where people see JRob get away w/ thing's in those games that does not flush in the ACC. We do not see JRob getting away w/ driving into the lane & finishing against NC St or BC ...and those are the worst of the teams he will see in the ACC.
I'm just saying I would rather struggle w/ a kid developing his game than hope against hope that we try competing w/ a player that just does not have the cabability...We need what Newkirk brings to the table if we want to improve this year going into next...Does not mean JRob sit's or goes away & does not play anymore, but the baton needs to be passed....
Hail to PITT !!!
