2 months of cupcakes gave us false hope.

Big boys came and they all folded like a cheap tent.

Smith, our "3 point specialist" was the most disappointing. If he even remotely resembled a Ronald Ramon we win a few more games and are comfortably in the NCAA field. As it stands, if they don't make it I will not be watching 1 minute of their short NIT bid.

Please Jamie, no more grad transfers. Maybe you can start actually recruiting "real" ACC players.

We just got the wrong Smith as a grad transfer. Adam Smith is the type of 2 guard this team has sorely lacked in my of the past 15 seasons. You add him to this squad and we have another 4 wins. Anyone know how GT got him? Is he from their area?

I thought Maia played well for us most times. He's not much offensively, but he is really the only player we have that can bang down low consistently with other ACC level front line players. Plus, I think he's our best post defender and rebounder per 40 minutes. I agree with the other two being useless.

Grad Transfer from VT. He killed us in every game we played. You'd think we would have been smart enough to go all out after him.

I absolutely remember him from VT. I was asking how the heck he ended up at GT. Super sweet stroke.

I didnt even know Adam Smith and Eli Carter were on the transfer market (and didnt know they transferred) until the season started. I dont know how GT and BC can get such good grad transfers and we get a role player from a MEAC team.

What's happened to Smith's shot? He can't hit his a## with either hand right now... I know people have slumps be he's in a real bad one...But by no means is the loss today on him.It was another collective group effort.

Eli Carter is a NJ guy, and should have been in Knight's wheelhouse.

I thought Jones was coming around and all of a sudden Smith was getting the most minutes.

My father just said the same thing. It blows the mind how none of them did anything once conference play started.
Why would it blow anyone's mind? They played at Coppin State, Brown and Richmond. And we fans would thumb our noses down at kids who played at Duquesne. So what the hell did we expect from 3 kids from those 3 programs?

Good point, just thought Smith would be a nice addition this year as that 3 point specialist. I mean, does the fact that he hasn't hit a 3 since the middle of February reflect on Jamie's coaching ability or just that Smith is not good? Who knows.

I thought the three grad transfers would be a good supplement to the veteran trio. In the non-conference slate, they probably were. At the end of the regular season, they were not enough to make the 2016 team any better than the 2015 team.

I think Sterling Smith went 0 for 2016 if I recall correctly. The kid from Richmond was ineffective in almost every regard. I liked Maia. He could rebound and he did work at playing defense. He just picked up too many quick or unnecessary fouls and he is not much of an offensive player at all. In the end, he was not enough of a difference maker.

Disagree with you on this one - Carter is a very selfish player and a cancer as a teammate

I agree. I don't know how much Carter would have helped. And I was bummed we didn't get him as a frosh too.

Jokes has done a pretty nice job since becoming a starter. However, he's a good example of a role player type, a complimentary guy, that should not be a starting ACC 2 guard. He'd be a nice 7th man ideally. But it's not his fault that he's the best option we have at the 2, he was a Plan C recruit when we offered him, and he has held his own of late. Still, big upgrades are needed and we need a real scoring guard. Still not seeing one anywhere on our radar. Not sure why we are having such a problem landing one.

I've watched another 2 guard that considered Pitt, Ike Nwamu, all season at UNLV. Averaging double figures on 38% shooting, while launching some of the worst shots I've ever seen.

Maybe Dixon would've reigned him in a little and he could've helped. I know one thing though he is a hell of a lot better than Sterling Smith.

How does Brian Gregory land Smith, Jacobs, and Mitchell, 3 big-time grad transfers from P5 schools and we have to pluck guys from Brown, Coppin St, and Richmond? Jamie's recruiting at every level is just plain bad.

Smith is 1 for his last 14 from 3 and hasnt made a 3 since Valentine's Day.

Spot on about Jones.

I was never real warm no this for JD, and did not like how he expressed a certain comfort with it.

The whole thing runs counter to what JD did best - get solid kids into the program, put them in line, got them into shape, let them learn the system while the prior crew was the core, start to contribute slowly, build into solid upper classman who had earned their spot, knew the system, were completely integrated into what he was doing.

And, it is like anything else in recruiting with him, and we saw it with this class. He just can't beat the top schools for kids they really want. So, the initial kids he targeted, who were a step above what he got, got sucked up by the better programs. Leaving him with limited guys.

He has to, HAS to, get back to recruiting preps and developing them.

No it doesn't.

Better question: what did Dixon think he could expect from players coming from those BB powers? Dixon whiffed every which way from Sunday on these guys.

Dixon was backed into a corner. He didn't deliberately change his recruiting strategy to place emphasis on 5th year guys over HS players. He whiffed so badly on recruiting HS kids that he had no choice but to go the 5th year transfer route.. He had huge holes in his roster that he had to fill. It's as simple as that. He has to fill the roster somehow and when it's March and your down 3 on the roster there's no downside to bringing in 5th year guys.

Clearly that was the end point.

I also think he was comfortable enough with it as a fall back that he didn't hit the preps as hard as he should have last cycle.

Dixon and this staff have had more whiffs than Dale Berra. Their batting average on landing recruits is on par with Mario Mendoza.
