New two-day tournament (semi-finals, consolation game, final) at MSG between Thanksgiving and Christmas.

One ACC team:
- Pitt
- Syracuse
- Notre Dame
- Louisville

One AAC team:
- Cincinnati
- UConn
- USF

One OBE/NBE team:
- Georgetown
- Marquette
- Providence
- Villanova
- St. John's
- Seton Hall

One of:
- West Virginia
- Rutgers

Teams rotate on a yearly basis. In the event that two teams from one conference must be selected (which likely would only happen if WVU and RU don't want to participate that year), the consolation/final format is scraped to ensure there are no unexpected conference games, and the 'winner' is decided by a tie-breaker. Or, to avoid that you could group the teams across conferences, with a stipulation that there are no double-dips.

I'm a very smart man.

I posted the same thing a couple times over the last few years with minor changes but the same principle. You couldn't do it as a tournament because it would be too hard to get teams to sign up for an exempted tournament on a consistent basis. I would do an annual doubleheader, called something like the Madison Square Garden Heritage Classic or something like that and I'd add in Boston College.

First year
7:00 - St. John's vs Boston College
9:30 - Syracuse vs UConn

2nd year
7:00 - Pitt vs West Virginia
9:30 - Louisville vs Cincinnati

3rd year
7:00 - Seton Hall vs South Florida
9:30 - Notre Dame vs Georgetown

Something like that

Imagine the enthusiasm for that Pitt, USF, Providence, Rutgers year.

That would be must see TV.

I think an easier tournament to organize might be something like what they do in Indiana, where nd, IU, Purdue, and butler play in a doubleheader.

Why not take Pitt, PSU, Nova, and Temple and do the same thing. Hold the tournament in Philly 2 of 4 years, 1 year here, 1 year at st college.

I think nova and temple play every season so playing once every three years they might not go for, but they could just schedule games against each other in the years they aren't playing in the doubleheader.

Call it the Keystone Classic or something like that

Throw in BC, Virginia Tech or Miami and have a 16 team Old Big East Reunion Tournament, that would be must see TV.

Good idea but Nova and Temple already play 4 Big 5 OOC games (each other, St. Joe's, LaSalle, Penn) which are played as a home and home so right off the bat they have 2 pre-scheduled road games (games at the Palestra are considered road games for Nova and Temple). Throw in an exempt tournament or something like the Jimmy V and they won't have much room for a Keystone Classic. Maybe Temple because they need a really good OOC to offset the American but Nova is fine in the Big East, plus they can schedule anybody they want.

For arguements sake, I would do it in Hershey.

- 10,000 seat arena
- semi-centrally located
- not a pro market so this would be the biggest event of the year there meaing good attendance
- great sports fans (really support PIAA basketball and wrestling)

1st year
Pitt vs Nova
PSU vs Temple

2nd year
Pitt vs Temple
Nova vs PSU

3rd year
Pitt vs PSU
Duquesne vs Drexel?

Or a Steel Cage Match with Thompson, Massimino, Carnesecca

and Boeheim. A prelim match with Pitino, Huggins, Wright & Dixon. Calhoun would have to ref, because he's never made a mistake....just ask him.

Too bad Tarkanian's dead! He kinda looked like George "The Animal" Steele, especially when he chewed on the towel.

I always thought a 4 team tournament with Pitt, Ohio St, WVU and Cincinnati would be a good one. Rotate it each year between Pittsburgh (Consol) and Columbus (Nationwide Arena).

I like it. Great idea, makes lots of sense, the fans would love it and Pa. media would eat it up. That means no chance it ever happens.
