Great interview with Shady about Pitt

Re: Thank You For Link!

Shady, said he came to Pitt because Dave Wannstedt was straight with him and everything he said turned out to be right.

LINK By Wannstedt;

Just in case Dave Wannstedt hadn't gotten his point across about how he feels about former Pitt athletic director Steve Pederson, he took one more chance to run over the animal that was already dead:

"Would I have taken this job if I didn't know who the AD was or if it was going to be Steve Pederson? Absolutely not," Wannstedt said. "That has to be a discussion with the coach. Get a great coach and everything will work out, but it can be a factor. They can't stick their head in the sand and pretend that it's not."

Wannstedt explained what the school need in an AD.

They need somebody to rally the troops right now, get everybody fired up, whether it be students, alumni, coaches, staff get them excited for being at Pitt where everybody's trying to go that extra mile," he said. "It'll carry over to the athletes and the playing field. There just needs to be a mindset, the glass is half-full and let's go, get that positive vibe back again."

Re: Thank You For Link!

What possible reason do you have for linking these Wanny quotes from 3 months ago that were already posted here and discussed.

Has it been too long since we heard from the haters?

Re: Wbrpanther....!

Shady brought up Wannstedt and said many nice things in the interview about how Wannstedt was always straight with him, These links show Wannstedt being straight with Pitt on choosing a Coach and what had to be done to do that too. As well as well as what Pitt needs in the New Athletic Director that has yet to be chosen? I find that relevant to what shady was saying just yesterday.

Additionally, I do not feel or think Wannstedt or Harris or Chryst is part of hate at Pitt. All improved Pitt in various ways. Harris brought Pitt back to winning again. Wannstedt brought in 10 wins and return connections to High School recruiting and higher salaries for the staff. Chryst improved the Offense and changed attitudes. None of what I just posted above is inaccurate or hateful in anyway.

Moreover, it is even more relevant because Coach Narduzzi was chosen without Pitt having an Athletic Director and without Pederson being at Pitt, as well as will benefit and build upon the foundation built by Harris 10 years ago, Wannstedt 5 years ago, and Chryst's last 3 years. Shady's comments on Wannstedt were spot on as far as I am concern and Wannstedt portending was too.

Furthermore, I don't police the boards, nor advocate censorship on what others want to posts, and if the Monitors take it down as they have taken my own posts down sometimes, so be it!

I am sure some day, Fitzgerald will tell a Radio Interviewer how Walt Harris help him choose Pitt maybe in his NFL HOF Speech, and I'll post what is relevant on what Fitz's says too. Same with Boyd and Conners speaking about Chryst, or Whitehead on Narduzzi, if ever asked?

If it upsets you or haters as you describe so be it too, and like you just did, I have no problem with those
comments either!

Shady talked how important Wannstedt was to him at Pitt, and Wannstedt is an Alumnus and was a Coach at Pitt, and made predictions with advice what his Alma Mater needed to do 3 months ago, and Pitt did it whether right or wrong and without listening to DW does not matter to me.

I found that is relevant as far as I am concern, and your objection is duly noted, but I responded as well too!

Re: Wbrpanther....!

Wanny called up recruits and told them to decommit after he got pushed out. F him. He's dead to me.

Re: Wbrpanther....!

Captain, you misunderstand. What I was referring too was when Wanny made these statements the haters on this board ripped him for telling the truth.

Re: Wbrpanther....!

I like what both shady and wannstedt had to say. And i agree with it.

it has always puzzled me why the president rushed and hired a coach but assembled a board to hire an AD. A board that includes coaches.

Isn't that putting the cart before the horse ? i think that is what wannestedt is saying.

The ad drives the sports program or are we going to go the way of PSU and let the football coach run the school ?

Re: Wbrpanther, My Apologies!

I apologize, I never got into and did not read those threads nor comment whatsoever. I just do not look into the past and post or argue once a coach is gone. If others fight over it, that is fine too, not my fight so I avoid those posts unless I have something significant to add as far as facts or a link or contribute to the discussion?

I have my opinions.but I choose certain subjects to talk about and avoid the ones I know less on, and learn from others on subjects they teach me and took the time to share.

I thought Walt burned out and wanted to leave. I did not want Wannstedt but I respected and accepted him later on what he did in rebuilding Pitt recruiting, staffing, and beating WVU 13-9 even though it took 3 years, but he was stubborn as well and working for an AD even more stubborn.

I liked Chryst after attacking him but the jury was still out on him when he left last year, but he built a great offense, and ok defense, but had terrible special Teams, and I am glad he left for Wisky.

I thought Rudolph would keep things going, but UPitt89 and NCPanther showed me how Narduzzi was the better choice and I agreed after reading them.

However, I accepted Steve Pederson from 1996 to 2002, but thought it was a mistake he was brought back, and agree with Wannstedt that Pitt could not attract a good coach until Pederson was gone, and we do know Narduzzi wanted the Pitt Job. But these are just my own opinions and I changed them over the years.

Thank you for letting me know about the prior debates, and I apologize for misunderstanding your post!

Re: Wbrpanther, My Apologies!

Chryst built an ok defense????? Did you really mean to post that?

Definately one of my favorite Panthers, and best current RB's in the NFL. Great interview, very personable. Would have been funny to get Narduzzi take on McCoy run over his defense at MSU in 2007.

And there's hard evidence of this? I seriously doubt it.

Re: Perchance

Early this year the Defense was ok as the Offense struggle. later it fell apart, but it is my contention, some of those games were lost on Special Teams just like in Year 1 and 2 under Chryst.

Chryst made fun of not needing a Special Teams Coach but if Chryst was right, then Chryst cost Pitt crtical wins. It cost Pitt 2 games each year under Chryst, as far as I am concern.

Last year 2014, the Duke Game gave up a TD Return and of course the Chryst call before the missed kick? The Houston Game Onside Kicks & Extra 2 Points cost that Bowl Game by 1 point.

The GT Game was on the Offense Record Breaking Fumbles more than the Defense? Akron and Iowa games were horrible Offense Games more than Defense? It took Chryst 4 games to figure out Voytik could run the ball?

The year before UNC game was a disaster as Pitt gave up punt returns that cost that game? Miami got off to a big lead in 2013 due to Special Teams giving up field position and points even though Pitt Offense and Defense played enough to win later.

Chryst struggled all 3 years on his Special Teams contributing to losses for Pitt Games is my contention. Even when the Offense and Defense played enough to win, the Special Teams Chryst joked about was actually a joke that let Chryst & Staff let his players on Offense and Defense down.

They should have 8 games in 2012, 2013, and 2014 as far as I am concern and much of those losses were on Chryst.

Chryst learning to become a Head Coach was just as responsible as far as I am concern! In addition, Chryst did not have Team ready in YSU in 2012, Navy 2013, and Akron 2014?

Yes, the Teams were young but Special Teams as well as Chryst & Staff contributed to losses that could have been wins in those years too. Chryst own inexperience as Head Coach let his players down.

Re: Wbrpanther....!

Zeise talked openly Wannstedt calling recruits like he knew it to be a fact. I'm inclined to believe him.

Follow up

So basically there is no hard evidence. Only the ramblings of a biased sports writer on an off the beaten path Wisconsin blog. There isn't a sports writer in Pittsburgh, that covers Pitt, that has the credibility to be called a journalist. A journalist would provide specific evidence of such a serious charge.

I listened to that entire interview Zeiss did. He was factually incorrect on so many things I'm embarrassed for him. I'll bet he wishes he would have explained things differently.

To me it's simple. Would a guy that supports a football scholarship at his alma mater actually do that? I doubt it. Not in the way some of you are assuming. In the absence of any hard evidence, the only conclusion should be unlikely.

Zeise's only sources at the time were Steve Pederson's minions in the AD. So it's hearsay. Let's smear one of your own based on hearsay from a local sports writer of dubious talent.

I'm ready to stomp on Dave if this happened EXACTLY as Zeise says by the way.

Or maybe Chris Peak can weigh in? He's probably way too smart.

Re: Follow up

I suspect that's probably premium board info
wink.r191677.gif

I do know that Wannstedt, from his comments during the FIU game, texting players in 2011, and commenting on Todd Graham's assessment of Sal's kid, was meddling in Pitt's affairs. It's pretty clear that he did not want the football program to be successful without him, or more probably more accurately, with Pederson as the AD. Looks like he got want he wanted.

Do I have hard proof that he went so far as to tell players to decommit? I guess not. But I sure wouldn't have put it past him.

Re: Follow up

I remember that article. All it does is show a coach who is concerned for a player. nothing in that article was untrue ordetrimental to the University of Pittsburgh. Unless you want to imagine it.

So the Eagles dump McCoy and sign Murray for about the same or more money. Something must have been going on there???

Go Pitt!

Re: Follow up

The former coach publicly airing that he has a problem with how his successor is running what is now his team?

Nah, that's not meddling. What was I thinking?
rolleyes.r191677.gif

They swap McCoy for Murray AND get Alonso while actually saving a bit of money at the RB position, right? Seems like it worked out alright for them. I thought they made a bad move at first but it looks like they had a good plan in place.

I just hope Narduzzi can get the program back to where it was around the time we fired Wannstedt. I am confident he can but it is not a sure thing.
