This is a game other Pitt teams would have loss. Narduzzi doesnt allow this.

That being said, if this is a representation of this year's team, it will be a very long year. I worry most about the Dline, we had zero push. Add to that young dbs and we have no chance the next 2 weeks. Best bet is to run and shorten the game.

Positivity, you may get banned for this.

It was bad, but no different than the first game last year really.

Yes the d line had no pressure on their offense. And what happened to the o line in second half. 1st and goal and got pushed backwards and did not score at all, what's up with that? Not to mention the play calling

Maybe the D was more basic on purpose as well as the offense? No stunting, blitzing, etc. Did we do any LB blitzing? A vanilla defensive approach would make it much easier for opponents OL to block both for running game and to pass protect. Did any of our Board "experts" watch to see if the DL did anything other than just try to go straight ahead "Mano a Mano" vs the YSU OL? I didn't pay attention one way or another to any of this stuff. So I really don't know.

It was reminiscent of Wanny Ball.
No O line push, no pursuit/ penetration on D line, open YSU guys all over th place, back to kicking basics, recievers cant get open, and the famous Wanny complete second half collapse. The only second half adjs were made by YSU!
On our ride home 93.7 The Fan mentioned exactly what I just posted!

We did very little blitzing, but that is one reason why the breakdowns were more frustrating. Especially when we have LBs whose one advantage should be coverage AND our HC says at halftime they noticed a deficiency and need to fix it and then we get burned again and again. Plus, there is no reason to be overly vanilla. Do you honestly think we are going to be so innovative in year 3 that we are going to be doing a bunch of stuff HCPN hasn't done with his defenses over the last decade? Teams have film of every single game he has ever coached. We aren't going to surprise them with a wholly different scheme. We spent last year changing absolutely nothing and getting torched every single week.

The problem is: we shouldn't have to blitz against YSU to get pressure. We also shouldn't have to have creative schemes to have a decent defensive performance against a FCS school. We couldn't get pressure. We couldn't perform in the secondary. We couldn't stop the run. The defense was worse than last year in game 1 because the DL talent and production is a clear step down and LB is still an absolute wasteland.
