8 years ago there was a trifecta of things working against him that I believe ruined him.

With deeper grooves, he could get away with horrible driving accuracy and long distance and get the ball to stick on the green for the next shot. When this rule changed, so did his birdies.

The marriage can't be overstated. He had a wife taking care of the family while he did as he pleased. Added responsibility and trying to be a decent person suddenly became less fun.

I'm not sure if he was on the juice, hgh or whatever but he has not won a major since drug testing started. My guess is his amazing concentration may have helped by Adderall. It's been called "birdies in a bottle" because the mind is far more important than muscle in golf.

As an aside, he should have never left Titleist. Nike is an inferior equipment maker in golf. His Nike putters can't match his trusty Scotty Cameron.

The last few years and his kids might be a cure to make him a decent person but his days as the best golfer will never come back. I believe he can be a top 25 for a few years but not top 10. I doubt he ever sniffs a major again.

Well this is out of nowhere but I am assuming you are talking about Tiger Woods.....The only reason he has fallen this far is because he is continually hurt

That's it, that's the list......The rest is just speculation

Sorry. It meant to be a Tiger reply, not a new thread.

Completely rebuilding your swing when is the best in the world---twice, combined with age and the injuries that come with it equals Tiger becoming human.

This is actually 6 or 7 year old news. Some day the media might catch on.

The new groove rule was much ado about nothing except for a few players. Tiger wasn't one of them.

There are a few courses where distance isn't as important but by and large the bomb and gouge philosophy is alive and well. That's a little different in the US Open if they have gnarly rough but these guys can still have remarkable control of their ball out of the rough most weeks.

And he was easily one of the top 3 putters ever. The fact that he also changed his putting stroke is one of the most overlooked things. That still has my mind blown that he fooled with it. He used to make dam near everything when it mattered. When he plays now he's just average putting.

^^^This^^^ golfers make swing changes all of the time but when you arguably the greatest putter ever, why change?

The reason he isn't as great of a putter is he can't get the ball close to the hole on approach. The grooves are a big deal and not getting within 10 feet as often sure makes for a lot of two putts instead of one.

I am a low handicap and I still use an 8 year old Vokey wedge instead of a new conforming wedge. There is a difference in the spin.

He has wedge yips which is really unusual for pros.

I'm a mid single digit cap. For you and me the grooves matter. It hasn't effected the tour players all that much.

As far as his chipping and pitching yips - I've been watching golf pretty much all my life. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before with the possible exception of Ian Baker Finch - who lost his game completely.
