Latrobe Brewing.. Isn't that the home of Paterno beer? If so, I have drank my last Guinness Blonde beer. Nobody cares if you don't drink the Paterno beer;people care if you stop drinking other suds produced in the same joint....

Wrong. Duquesne Brewing brews the Paterno Lager.

Also, no one cares if you don't drink it. And no Pitt fan boycott would even make a blip.

I won't drink it and I would hope no self respecting fan would drink any product from a company that promotes a pedophile enabler.

You're both kind of right. Both beers are "contract" beers brewed in the facility Iron City owns in Latrobe.

Boycott any beer brewed by the Duquesne Brewing Co. The owners are official Cult members that see no problem with Paterno enabling Sandusky.

I know the owners. They're fantastic people. The biggest Duquesne fan I know and fans of Pittsburgh sports in general. Lets not smear people, Pittsburgh is a small town.

I will not support a person or company that allowed a pedophile to continue to do bad things. They could have had a Mr Rodgers, Bruno or Arnold Palmer beer but they chose paturdo. They can't be "fantastic" with that character flaw!

I think Latrobe Brewing plans to use separate and segregated tanks for the Jo Pa beer. They promise to wall the tank off with a lead lined wall. The owners have also pledged to melt the tanks after the Jo Pa beer run is complete. The melted tank metal will be sent to psu so they can mold a jo pa statute (halo included)from it.

I would guess that they just want to make big money preying on the PED$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :)

They know every cult member wants a Paterno Lager bottle on their mantle, it's a money maker, there are million$ of them and this is a niche brewer.

It's like Iron City with the Steelers/Pirates/Pens themed cans. Less about the beer, more about the novelty and the fans wanting the cans and bottles.

I actually drank Duquesne from time to time, even though it isn't very good, until they announced this Paterno beer. I read an interview with the owner and he basically admitted that he isn't a huge PSU cultist, but saw it as a way to make money by selling to a big population. Regardless, I won't buy anything from him. They also sell a Fort Pitt brand, FWIW.

EDIT: Here it is:

Although he's a Duquesne University graduate with no ties to Penn State, Dudash said the intense loyalty Nittany Lions fans harbor for their team and the late coach prompted him to approach Jay Paterno with his idea a year ago.

Do they donate the profits to child abuse ?

Wow. That is even worse than being a cultist. Putting out a beer honoring a pedophile enabler just to make money.

Seriously? I guess If your brewery wasn't doing well, or not having good sales, you'd stick to your morals, even go bankrupt if you had to?

People will stop buying all their products..... He chose a path that offends people--bad business.. The times they are a changin......It's just not a Pitt thing...I know several people who are not rabid Pitt fans that are seriously boycotting all their products and urging others to do so.. What won't you do to sell beer? What about KKK Lager?? I will never buy their products.. He can sell all the Paterno beer he wants... I have the right to refuse to buy any of his products.

Why not put out a beer honoring Mario Lemieux, Chuck Noll, Andrew McCutchen, or another famous athlete or coach that would earn you money?

100% Correct and u should let the owners know why.

Obviously I don't have intimate knowledge of their finances, but I don't think there's any serious issues with their livelihood. They're a contract brewing operation who is making money by reviving lapsed trademarks of old beers from the region. For this, though, he just saw a cashcow waiting out inthe cow pasture.

Maybe he can sell OJ legacy mimosa cans or Bill Cosby legacy chocolate (pudding) stouts.

It is Duquense Brewing... must be low lifes

Their new beer is Hitler Beer though, tag line "If you like Paterno beer, this beer will have you saying Mein kampf of beer!"

The boycott is so effective that they are expanding production and coming out with a light version. Like most boycotts the reality is no effect on the business. Just look at it.

1. Take the number of people who actually care enough to follow through with the boycott. (Eliminate the ones who if you ask if they would ever buy a product from a company started by Hitler then drives off in a VW or who says they will never shop at target again and you see them the next week. )
2. Remove the number of people who don't buy beer. Only 24% of the US population drinks beer.
3. Now remove the number of people who never bought or would buy Duquesne beer. What is Duquesne market share? So that would probably eliminate 99% of potential boycotted.
4. Remove those who know that Duquesne Beer is actually the same company that make Paterno beer. Which is agin probably half of those left because most people simply don't care or know who makes which beer. Like how many people actually know Budweiser and Corona are made by the same company.

What you are left is probably not enough people left to actually make a difference especially with the number of people who will buy Paterno beer just for the novelty of it.

Yeah... no kidding because you depraved morons in the center of the state can care less about morals and ethics and only care about buying some lame beer cause your savior is on the cheaply massed produced label.

Attended a party with about 20 people-some Pitt fans, most not or neutral--we discussed the issue and everyone poured the Latrobe Brewing product down the drain and the consensus was who needs to support this money grubbing opportunist company with no moral compass.. Small sample agreed-but nevetheless it happened...and most, if not all, of those people and some they speak to will not buy their products...count on it.

Here's a list of other companies you might also want to avoid if you're so devoted because they're sponsors.

AT&T
Highmark
Pepsi
AAA
Dietz & Watson
Hyundai
PA Lottery
PNC
Weis
Comcast
DelGrosso

You might want to avoid all ag related products too because the extension offices sort of handle all of that. Probably ought to cross hunting or fishing off that list too since the State sort of leans on PSU for a lot of the research that's going on for both sports.

Don't forget the corporations that do business in the state have at least a token tie-in, somewhere along the line. For instance, BOT members lead companies like Hilton, Verizon, NY Times, Accuweather...I can go on.

Just helping those who are so inclined.

Yeah, how many of those are Pitt sponsors as well? Obvious Pitt leans on the state too, and gives research to Pitt in bio funding.

But for sure I can stay away from the ones on your list.

By the way, what is the connection between Duquense and Latrobe breweries?

We are talking about commemorative nostalgia for a Pedophile Enabler.

True. But I can see a special marketing niche from a large market of buyers that feel persecuted. NOBODY ELSE is selling them what they want to buy, you can monopolize a market of millions of college educated people.

LOL, most of America does not see JoePa as Hitler, OJ or Bill Cosby. I'd say it's forgotten by 99% of the USA outside of Pitt fan/PSU haters, most people still think of the old JoePa and the record wins and think it's over now that Sandusky is in jail.

By the way, what is the connection between Duquense and Latrobe breweries?

In regard to the OP, there's really no reason to hold this against Latrobe. They are a contract brewer and pretty much anyone can come to them with a recipe and bottling/packaging design and become a "brewery". Duquesne is really just a design company, basically, who outsource all of the physical business to Latrobe.

To put it more simply, Latrobe is a factory. Latrobe is not a brand. You cannot buy Latrobe beer.
Duquesne is a brand. They do not own any physical production. You cannot watch beer be made at a Duquesne brewery.

(Contract brewing is also popular when production exceeds capacity at a given site. For example, Brooklyn Brewery only brews a small portion of their brand's beer on location. Kona Brewing produces all of their bottles in the mainland USA, while producing only kegs in their Hawaiian headquarters.)

I doubt Latrobe would accept production of "KKK Beer" but I bet they'd gladly produce Ray Lewis Beer or Vladimir Putin Beer if you were willing to pay them enough.

Nope.

Even the OP didn't know despite being posting it on the internet. He didn't even take the time to do a google search.

I guess you don't get around much huh? Paterno is synonymous with this scandal all.over this country, that's why there was so much outcry when trump made the comment about his statue.

That probably for the best considering Latrobe brewing closed in 2004 so any beer they brewed would probably be no good.
