If we had the coaching staff/schemes in 2016 but with the 2012 roster, how would this team have performed?
QB: Tino Sunseri
RB: Ray Graham
WR: Street, Shanahan, Saddler
TE: Holtz
OL: King, Jacobson, Turnley, Schlieper, Rotheram
DE: Clemmings, Hale
DT: Donald, Ezell
LB: Gordon, Williams, Grigsby
DB: Pitts, Kwaun Williams, Hendricks/Vinopal, Holley/Tags
I think the offense would have been interesting. Sunseri would have been a decent fit in Canada's scheme. Offensive line was still pretty talented, though advantage current 2016 oline with that left side with Bisno and DoJo. Ray Graham was a good back and would definitely fit in this offense. The receivers would have been very strong with Shanahan and Street on the outside and Saddler (or Jones) in the slot for those jet sweeps.
On defense, we are probably stronger in the middle of the DL with Donald/Ezell though probably not the same level of pass rush on the outside as we have currently with Price there. Hale did have 3 sacks and 9.5 TFL his senior year after not living up to expectations coming from Gateway. Linebackers in 2012 were probably a little bit more athletic, but would say fairly even with this year. The secondary though would have been fun to watch with Narduzzi's scheme. Kwaun/Hendricks/Holley were very good college players and all three got NFL sniffs (Kwaun is still in the league). Pitts was young that year, but probably was a better fit to play man than our current corners.
Crazy to believe that team lost to FCS-YSU by 14.
