Well, this seals will he start right away. He has an undisclosed injury. Honestly, from Narduzzi's comments it seems at the very least not minor. Hopefully Coleman, garner and Miller can contribute next week and get some depth.
That says "Hamlin could return later this season." That is scary.
Uh. No. Good imagination though. Here's a conspiracy theory. Hamlin wasn't a Whitehead-like stud who could immediately help. Not saying he wont be a star but maybe he couldn't crack the 2 deep. So they float the injury thing out there for 2 reasons:
1. To show guys like Lamont Wade that Hamlin is redshirting because he's hurt NOT because Pitt is too deep at CB.
2. To get the injury on record in case he needs a 6th year down the road. I know most feel he'll be in the NFL in 3 or 4 years but you never know.
To be honest, I hope he was soundly beaten out because I think he's really good and if he couldn't win the job or crack the 2 deep, that means we may be OK there.
Ummmmm...........Hamlin was killing it the first 2 weeks of camp. Its unfortunate but the kid will be big time sooner than laterHere's a conspiracy theory. I knowWe dont really know that. This camp has been very secretive.
Thanks! Been checking out the podcast lately. Good stuff, man.Hamlin played well in the first week of camp, but he has been limited off and on since then.
Here's our article on his injury situation:

This will definitely hurt us against PSU as I see them trying to exploit our thin secondary with their as-good-as-advertised WR's. Hopefully, our d-line will be able to get to and rattle their green qb enough to overcome Hamlin's loss...
Ryan Lewis is alarming. But, at least he's experienced. The good news is if they must, they can go ahead and RS Hamlin while allowing talented FR that to assist in reserve roles like Coleman and Miller.
I think Whitehead's much more valuable at safety. He could always shade over there to assist though.I would consider moving Whitehead to CB and have Webb and Mitchell start at Safety. Webb and Mitchell are both good players. That other CB spot really worries me.
Experienced as in he's a RS SR that should at least know where to be, vegas. Regardless, the secondary is better than it was last season with a returning and improved Maddux, a stud Whitehead and quality SRs like Webb and Mitchell. We'll see what Dane Jackson and Co. can do at the other spot.

Not happening. The coaches are pretty steadfast in believing that Pitt would have given up a lot more in the rushing game if not for Whitehead - and that if they didn't have him stopping a lot of runs from becoming big runs, the results would have been pretty bad.I would consider moving Whitehead to CB and have Webb and Mitchell start at Safety. Webb and Mitchell are both good players. That other CB spot really worries me.
Really bad news. George Hill out of football for good, Gilbert out for at least this season, now this, which could be a serious problem for Hammer, especially if it's that groin he had surgery on over the winter. I hate the woe is me routine but this is a program that can't afford to be losing its top incoming talent.Well, this seals will he start right away. He has an undisclosed injury. That's why you aren't a football coach. Keep your day job, leave the personnel decisions to the guys who know what they're doing.I would consider moving Whitehead to CB and have Webb and Mitchell start at Safety. Webb and Mitchell are both good players. That other CB spot really worries me.
Agree, Great Coaches don't play machinations that way, Hamlin is dealing with something private and personal enough to just say, he will be back later. That's why you aren't a football coach. Keep your day job, leave the personnel decisions to the guys who know what they're doing.
Whitehead was our best run stopper last year and will be counted on to be even better against the run this year. Take him out of the box and watch what happens to our run defense. I think Dooz even said something to the effect after last season of "I'd hate to think where we'd have been (against the run) without Whitehead back there".
