Well, this seals will he start right away. He has an undisclosed injury. Honestly, from Narduzzi's comments it seems at the very least not minor. Hopefully Coleman, garner and Miller can contribute next week and get some depth.

Don't believe anything the Dooz says about injuries- every time he has characterized a guy's injury as minor the guy has missed multiple games!

This sucks, never want to see injuries especially to our prized freshman recruit. Hopefully it's as minor as Duz makes it out to be because we need a guy like Hamlin out there for the PSU game.

I have faith in Dane Jackson, Malik Henderson and to a lesser extent Ryan Lewis. But, I am hoping Coleman or Miller can step in too and contribute.

tough news on hamlin. they brought a specialist in, that could mean he might miss more than just a little bit.

recruit, recruit and recruit some more. coaches don't know the future.

Even sans Hamlin for a one to four weeks, I like that there's much, much more depth in the defensive backfield with the addition for a RS FR like Dane Jackson, all the other incoming TR FR and veterans like Mitchell, Webb and Lewis and, of course, a stud like Whitehead. Bad news, but could be much worse.

This worries me a lot. Our OOC schedule features two games against pass-heavy spread offenses in PSU and OSU. We really could use him in both games to add speed and length in coverage. I wonder if this injury carries on if they'll pull the plug on his whole season and give him the redshirt.

Here's a conspiracy theory. Hamlin wasn't a Whitehead-like stud who could immediately help. Not saying he wont be a star but maybe he couldn't crack the 2 deep. So they float the injury thing out there for 2 reasons:

1. To show guys like Lamont Wade that Hamlin is redshirting because he's hurt NOT because Pitt is too deep at CB.

2. To get the injury on record in case he needs a 6th year down the road. I know most feel he'll be in the NFL in 3 or 4 years but you never know.

To be honest, I hope he was soundly beaten out because I think he's really good and if he couldn't win the job or crack the 2 deep, that means we may be OK there.

Uh. No. Good imagination though.

Ummmmm...........Hamlin was killing it the first 2 weeks of camp. Its unfortunate but the kid will be big time sooner than later

Sounds like Hamlin will be taking a redshirt.

Have they moved Coleman over to that side? I don't want to see Ryan Lewis on the field for anything other than special teams.

Ryan Lewis is alarming. But, at least he's experienced. The good news is if they must, they can go ahead and RS Hamlin while allowing talented FR that to assist in reserve roles like Coleman and Miller.

That's my thinking... Jackson and Maddux with the two deep as the season progresses being Miller and Coleman as they likely pass up Motley, Weatherspoon and Lewis with more reps and practice.

This will definitely hurt us against PSU as I see them trying to exploit our thin secondary with their as-good-as-advertised WR's. Hopefully, our d-line will be able to get to and rattle their green qb enough to overcome Hamlin's loss...

Can McSorely throw the ball? He seems like a more athletic qb than he is a passer from what limited time I saw him last year.

I think it will hurt against OkSt more. They're going to shred us unless Whitehead plays out of his mind.

Experienced as in he's a RS SR that should at least know where to be, vegas. Regardless, the secondary is better than it was last season with a returning and improved Maddux, a stud Whitehead and quality SRs like Webb and Mitchell. We'll see what Dane Jackson and Co. can do at the other spot.

I would consider moving Whitehead to CB and have Webb and Mitchell start at Safety. Webb and Mitchell are both good players. That other CB spot really worries me.

I think Whitehead's much more valuable at safety. He could always shade over there to assist though.

If anything, given he already played there under Chryst, it would make more sense to move a RS SR like Mitchell to CB while youngin's develop. Then, again, Dane Jackson sounds like he's had a very, very good camp. Why not give him a run there?

Lafayette Pitts also knew where to be. I don't want a guy that just knows where to be at CB...i want a kid that can make a play on the ball. Stop with the everybody that wears a Pitt jersey is good attitude, Lewis stinks.

Too deep at DB? Ya I'm sure Malik Henderson, Dane Jackson, and Ryan Lewis will scare Wade

Not happening. The coaches are pretty steadfast in believing that Pitt would have given up a lot more in the rushing game if not for Whitehead - and that if they didn't have him stopping a lot of runs from becoming big runs, the results would have been pretty bad.

I mean sure crap of Lafayette but he is making the dolphins roster it looks like.

I think Pitts is better than Lewis from that point.

By the way the conspiracy thing sound ridiculously stupid even for.this board. Faking an injury cause he might not be good?? Seriously what is wrong with you? We have depth???? Really??? Lewis is starting because we have no depth yet. You can't call some true freshmen plenty of depth. Not to mention depth at the level of the number 10 recruit in the whole country.

Really bad news. George Hill out of football for good, Gilbert out for at least this season, now this, which could be a serious problem for Hammer, especially if it's that groin he had surgery on over the winter. I hate the woe is me routine but this is a program that can't afford to be losing its top incoming talent.

That's why you aren't a football coach. Keep your day job, leave the personnel decisions to the guys who know what they're doing.

Whitehead was our best run stopper last year and will be counted on to be even better against the run this year. Take him out of the box and watch what happens to our run defense. I think Dooz even said something to the effect after last season of "I'd hate to think where we'd have been (against the run) without Whitehead back there".

Agree, Great Coaches don't play machinations that way, Hamlin is dealing with something private and personal enough to just say, he will be back later.

If I am not mistaken, didn't Hamln have a bad fall on an Interception in Big 33 Game, maybe a left over from that injury?

When Narduzzi went after him last year he just raved about Hamlin's hip mobility of being able cover and go in many directions.

Plus such a Smart Player and that is always an asset.
