What is most likely to happen?

1. He will be ready for the start of the season and play most of the year

2. He will not be ready to start the season but will contribute during the year at some point

3. He will miss most, if not all of the upcoming season

That is crazy. I really never even considered the injury would still be nagging him even this august. Sounds pretty serious.

This is huge news IMO as I think you could make the argument that Hamlin is our most important returning player next season. As a poster above remarked, we have had some bad luck with our top end recruits and injuries - specifically the stacked '16 class. It seems like injuries/medical conditions really have put a hurting on a class that had a lot of hype. Hopefully Hamlin can get healthy and be force come the start of the season.

1. This sort of thing is why "top" recruits and stars are not great gauges of a guy's college football life.

2. Good chance they're just being very cautious and letting him rest. Pitt actually cares about the health of the kids and won't turn him lose until he's ready.

It should have been (at max) an 8-10 week recovery and it has been about 16 weeks since surgery. If he still isn't full go, it means there is something more wrong, not that they are just taking it easy.

Perhaps. Depends on a number of things but it's too early to get crazy over this.

Keep in mind that James Connor was just finishing treatments around camp and ended up having a season good enough to probably get him drafted.

It doesn't really "depend", though. If it was a successful surgery, the injury has a pretty standard timetable for return. He is essentially double that expected time table, if he is still having issues. So either something more is (or was) wrong that first thought or there is something else going on. It isn't just "rest" or slowing the process. Hamlin isn't even a vet who can just be ready when the time comes. He has essentially no experiences and still has quite the learning curve.

I looked up the procedure. The timeline you're referring to is for standard, laparoscopic procedures. If he had a "regular incision", six months is not unusual because it takes a long time for the wound itself to heal.

Unlike some of you, I think Hamlin will be in a battle for playing time even when fully healthy.

Dane Jackson is very athletic, and gained a lot of experience last year. And others, including Coleman, are talented and battling for playing time too. The starting CB spot is not going to be handed to Hamlin when healthy. He's going to have to win it by showing he is ready, and better than others, and that is hard to do when not getting the reps in practice.

If he can't go, we got Coleman and Miller chomping at the hit. Maddox is still here too.

If it was laproscopic... I would give it a lot longer then they claim. Mine took forever and still has days that affect me. 2 years later! Was not a routine surgery recovery like they claimed... painful for quit a while

This is not good. As most men know... everything is connected "down there" and what was thought to be a sports hernia could be adductor injury or a hip problem... or all three. Commonly misdiagnosed and not because of any incompetence.

There was a study that 40% of US Men's soccer team players had sports hernia surgery and 66% had a multiple diagnosis!

Yeah... probably won't be seeing him on the field any time soon. And a cornerback w/ hip problems?? Yikes. Might be a safety.

3. Hamlin will be beat out by a slew of more athletic corners IN HIS CLASS.
Therran Coleman, Henry Miller, Phil Campbell, Maurice Ffrench and possibly Bricen Garner all have a better chance to play in front of Hamlin.

It's too bad but it is appearing like Damar Hamlin may not live up to his "Star" ranking?

Bit premature. He is still a young in and will do great imo

Your kidding right? He was a true freshman corner last year and played even though he was injured twice during that first year. He will be fine. He will recover and be a starter. It's week 2 of spring his true soph year. Let not set him out to pasture just yet.miller Campbell and Gardner are all safeties not corners. And Coleman and French played less that damar did last year combined. Just sayin.

I've been out of it for a few weeks.

When did Miller move to Safety?
Has there been confirmation on Hamlin's health? Or we just going off of what 9's heard?

I always thought Coleman would be the better cb....but not because of injuries to Hamlin.

Exactly, so that would be different than what was reported at the time and a much bigger deal going forward because of the likelihood of reoccurrence.

I don't know. Things change. I was told an injury would fully recover and that I shouldn't worry but it didn't. Doesn't mean it won't. But I'm not trying to break the lineup at Pitt either. Just think it's better to wait it out.

I'm not counting him out, but it definitely does lower my future expectations. If he isn't really ready this year and has complications on his 2nd hernia surgery, that is really worrisome.

Of course. Like someone said above, this injury comes from twisting. Hopefully when he heals, he can be taught better technique but let's get him back in pads, first.

60% of the players you named don't even play CB. Ffrench is a cb but also taking reps on offense.

More worried about Clarke long term.

Just wondering - is there any gossip on how he is progressing? Is there word that his health could be more of a concern than previously thought? It could highlight why we just took the TE transfer from Buttgers.
