Harbaugh recruiting the hell out of NJ...

This is a perfect example of why college football is an absolute joke. Why is a HS team from Jersey playing in Michigan?

Good for Harbaugh though.

Playing another parochial school from Baltimore no less. You'd think they would at least be playing one of the Michigan H.S. powerhouses. It just so happens that both NJ and the DC metro are LOADED with big time prospects the next couple of years. How can this be allowed by:
  • the NCAA
  • U of Michigan
  • the archdiocese that oversee the two high schools involved
  • the Michigan High School Athletic Association
College recruiting has become a total $hit show and Harbaugh is exploiting every angle, every flaw or hole in the rules, to his credit.

Harbaugh is the hardest working head coach in the country.
i'll go so far as to say he is revolutionizing the recruiting game.. I don't like the guy, mainly guilt by association because his brother is a tool and his bro in law is an even bigger one so therefor, I dislike him but damn if this dude isn't changing the way the recruiting game is played..

I wonder how it would go if Narduzzi offered a NJ high school team a chance to play at Heinz?

And by the way-who's paying for the travel and expenses for this? it will be a 6 figure tab for each of the schools. Would that sit well with you if you were the parent of a non-football player at one of those schools, volunteering your time and money to support the school and its programs? I have two daughters in a Catholic school and we are constantly getting hit up for money, volunteering our time, etc etc as at any parochial school. If someone were to tell me the school was going to spend 150k give or take of money it claims not to have to play a football game 5 states away, I'd want someone's head on a spike. Or what if you're a teacher, making significantly less and with lesser benefits than your public school counterparts? How would this sit with you? And if it's private money, is this really a good use of it? Even the wealthiest parish schools are underfunded in many ways.

Like you said, good for Harbaugh. All he's doing os taking advantage of all the permissible angles. I blame the systems that permit this, because it's B.S. These are high school kids.

Well, Michigan lined itself with Paramus Catholic HS and got Rashan Gary #1 recruit last year and Jabrill Peppers, before Harbough, from Paramus Catholic. Harbough probably will get Singleton, #1 NJ recruit and maybe Cory Bolds both from Paramus Catholic this year. Partrige, the former PC coach is now a Michigan Recruiting Director. The other Catholic football coaches are pissed at Michigan from DePaul, Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic and St Peters. They feel Paramus Catholic has an advantage over them to get the better HS players with their relationship with Michigan.

Rutgers will always lose 1-3 NJ top players to ND, Ohio State or Michigan but Ash appears to be doing a good job keeping players home. Not as good as Maryland, they are ranked 13th in recruiting.

Fantastic post. And let's not forget the classmates. Isn't HS football, you know, meant for the kids in HS? How many kids from Paramus are going to be able to get to Michigan to watch the game?

I would assume the money is coming from a separate football booster's fund. If that is what they choose to spend some of their own money on, what's the issue? Perhaps they give generously to the parish and to the football program. It's not your business as to how they donate their money.

Also, parochial schooling is a choice not a mandate.

Super Bingo to the rescue

When it is all said and done, the NCAA will have a whole new chapter in their rules book of things schools can't do because of Harbaugh. I'll give him credit though for being a creative douche bag.

did a satellite camp at NJ D1 prospect factory Paramus Catholic yesterday, then delivered the commencement speech to their graduating seniors. To top it off, he invited Paramus to play its first game this fall in the Big House. Paramus has several high D1 prospects in the 2017 and 2018 classes.

The guy is relentless.

It certainly is their money to do with as they please. But I think your head is in the sand if you don't see the plethora of issues this creates.

Only with people who have an agenda.
People support that which is important to them. If other things appear to be short changed then it's up to the department supporters to have their booster/benefactors fund them adequately.

It's really that simple.

The cost of the trip is going to be forced on to the parents and some funds from the school. The superstars of the school can not even afford the tuition to the school and are getting a free ride. Other than1-2 superstars On the team, who against don't pay tuition, are going to Michigan. There's about 20-30 Paramus Catholic graduates going to Rutgers each year. Smart move by the school adminstration.

For FWIW, as regards the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) ....... there is nothing they can do here. They have no say over high schools in other states. They can only regulate Michigan schools.

In that regard, the MHSAA is actually fairly strict as regards playing out-of state teams: much stricter than the majority of high school athletic associations. MHSAA member schools can only play teams that are (a) in-state, (b) in a neighboring (land border) state, or (c) within 300 miles.

This 300 mile rule, for instance, would allow certain Detroit schools to play certain Pittsburgh schools --- Brother Rice, a Detroit Catholic powerhouse, has played Penn Hills before. MI and PA don't share a border but the schools are within 300 miles.

As regards, Paramus, they're obviously not within 300 miles of ANY Michigan high school. Thus, if Paramus wants to play in Ann Arbor, it must be against a non-Michigan high school.

Good for Harbaugh though.

Playing games on out of state campuses is common occurrence in other sports.

I think the Rutgers camp (held on the same day) had the better instate talent. A HC who attended both camps said the Michigan guys were more animated but the Rutgers coaches were far more focused on instruction. So far this year Mich. has no NJ recruits.

But it is OK for Penn State to recruit in NJ, which they have done for years. Another Big Ten school. Ha !!!

Michigan has to do this. Their home state is only OK at producing talent. Ohio on the other hand still produces a ton of talent, and of course OSU and UM can also recruit nationally

Michigan and the other big boys will take whoever they want from Jeraey and will leave RU to compete for the leftovers. See R. Gary and J. Peppers.

Why did Slippery Rock play at Michigan Stadium ??????
Because Michigan would announce other college football scores and as a lark would include Slippery Rock. The gag went on until SR developed a cult status in Ann Arbor. Finally, UM invited them to play and thus it came to pass the SD and Shippensburg did battle at the Big House.

Dude, our FB team had played the pretty straight and narrow as far as the rules are concerned. Were we 100 percent perfect? No, we weren't. We at least tried.

On top of it, we were unwilling to pay the top coaches, and Michigan has suffered for it.

The NCAA let it become an arms race, so don't begrudge an old FB power getting tired of being scammed. When Harbaugh starts breaking a ton of rules, come talk to us.

In the meantime, the SEC is still paying top dollar.

nIn the meantime, the SEC is still paying top dollar.

Agree with everything above, however it is the SEC & Big Ten Programs that have raised the Salaries of Coaches to maintain Top Winning to satisfy Alumni that demand such Winning, not so much Michigan in the past as you say but still today.

Ohio State and Penn State have Coaches in the Top Ten Compensation along with SEC Schools have 13 of 14 Teams in the top 30, as Big-12 have 50% in the Top 30? The Pac-12 has 4 and ACC only 3.

TOP TEN 2015 Listings:
4 SEC (4)
3 B10 (3)
2 B12 (2)
1 ACC (1)

TOP 11-20:
7 SEC (11)
2 B12 (4)
1 B10 (4)

TOP 21-30:
2 SEC (13)
1 B10 (5)
1 B12 (5)
4 P12 (4)
2 ACC (3)

This is called pushing the limits. There isn't a rule so why not exploit it if you can? All Harbaugh has done is make everyone outside of UofM hate him. So what? He could very easily win the B1G and put his team in the playoff. That's his job and this is how he chooses to do it.

More power to him.

Hurts PSU badly IMO. Those two schools will battle for top 5-7 in Jersey. We can come in a pluck a couple in that 7-15 range.

So Harbuagh is out kissing hands and shaking babies...whatever it takes to get the best talent in the country. More power to him. I wouldn't mind Narduzzi going a little more mad scientist on the whole thing too.

Dooz has been very active, but he doesn't have the brand to sell that Harbaugh has, and Dooz has only a fraction of Harby's budget for such shenanigans.

Why is the Big Ten allowing their schools to conduct satellite camps in the footprint of other member schools? Can Clemson conduct a satellite camp at Woodland Hills? If so, if I'm Pitt, I'd be super upset about that.

The NCAA allows satellite camps. Fine. But a conference should not allow its teams to conduct these camps in the footprints of other member schools.

I cant wait for the University of Michigan Columbus Satellite Camp.
