Lots of good stuff from linebackers coach Rob Harley today. He was asked about Mike Caprara seemingly passing Bam Bradley on the depth chart at Money (weak-side) linebacker. Did that move mean that Bradley has taken a step back?
"Part of it is, I don't know if he has taken a step back; I think the competition is so heavy. The competition is big-time right now. I don't know if he has taken a step back, but some of the other guys have done some things. And Caprara is one of those guys.
"Bam's in the mix. Bam is in the mix. I told him today, 'It is wide open for you if you want your job. You started with the one's early; it's wide open. You get what you go make.' And he's a guy that's in the mix. I don't know if he took a step back, but it's a different atmosphere right now when you've got a defensive head coach. He has created an atmosphere of pure competition. Some guys, it kind of stunned them a little bit early, and I think they're rising to the occasion. I look forward to having at least six, seven guys by the end of this thing that have been right up in the mix.
"I always tell them they should make my job hard and I should be going, 'Who's the best? I don't know because they're playing so well.' They should be making my job hard."
I thought that highlighted portion was pretty interesting, and given the way the coaches have been shifting the depth chart, I think we're seeing that in action.
