This is why it’s impossible to have a reasonable discussion.

Not one conservative addressed what the original post was about.

“But what about Oregon?!”

“Check out this tweet from a Miami Uber…”

“But a professor in England…. (In an article with no byline….thats how gullible you are)

Oregon, Uber, and England didn’t make red state Florida soften educational requirements. And you guys can’t own up to that fact, so you whine and whine about anything else. It’s pathetic.

I’m guessing by the time I get done posting this someone will bring up trans people because you can’t admit conservatives don’t value education at all.

i did. i think its pathetic move and is a prime example of why education in this country is a joke. lowering the bar so we can pass students who honestly, cant read or write. that's not good.. dems, republcans, both to blame.

instead of challenging teachers and schools to raise the level of eduation, they lower it so as to not upset anyone or fail anyone and it brings everyone else down..

But the OP made it out to be a political thing that republicans do and we showed that it's happening everywhere, including very blue states/cities..

We are failing our children and our educational system is an abortion. plenty of blame to go around for everyone on that, republicans included..

Well said. It’s funny though when you push back and destroy the narrative that it’s only Rs that are destroying education that these guys cry foul and claim you can’t have a discussion

As has been proven on this board virtually every one on the left sees things through a political lense and especially from a Trump hating lense

The flip side most on the right have criticized the Rs and in fact many despise the Rs and much as the Ds. And many of us have criticized trump for a wide range of things and disagree with a number of his policies.

There have been some really good discussione
On the merits of the tarrifs. Only a few of the lefts on this board have engaged in those

Interestingly, this whole thread is a response to a different thread on Harvard. And I haven’t seen any statements in that thread indicating it’s a “both sides are to blame issue”.

What REALLY happened is 666 pushed back in the narrative that only Democrats are destroying education that was evident in the other thread.

well in our defense, prior to this example, most of the lowering educational standards have come from very left leaning cities/states..

Maybe in the past but now the right is pushing for less education. The dumber, the better. No college. More plumbers and carpenters. The better you do in HS, the more likely you are to attend college and become a Democrat so the R plan really is to de-fund education at all levels. An educated populus works against them.

yeah, those people who work in the trades are really dumb. .. lets lower the requirements for colleges so we can get these kids highly coveted degrees that these 4 year universities are scamming the youth into paying 100k for..

It's not that they are that dumb. They develop important skills and can build good careers. However, they lack critical thinking skills and that is a big plus for Republicans. They want more blue collar workers and less people getting a good public school or college education.

If it makes you feel better I am against DEI when the left and the right initiate it. Makes no difference to me. We shouldn't be cloaking race based educational requirements as general requirement modifications nor should we be allowing it to take place.

Making it easier for kids to graduate without needing to pass math and reading exams. No shocker as GOP wants to keep them dumb and uneducated.

"Simon said the changes will allow students who get testing anxiety to advance.

“What we're able to do is look at that data and say, ‘Okay, this kid just had a bad day testing.’ And that happens for some of our kids. Some of our kids just struggle with our tests. But the track record for that student over eight, nine years, we should be able to determine if a kid is on grade level and is mastering the material and just had a bad day,” he said.

The policy is a change in direction from the Republican-controlled body, that since the early 2000’s has championed those assessments. Simon said the current system has led to an emphasis on teaching for the test and contributed to why only a little over half of Florida kids are reading on grade level.

“What we've currently been doing, we've just been testing our kids and testing our kids, we have to really take a honest look at our education system. If 98% of our teachers are effective or highly effective, but only 53% of our kids are reading on grade level, there's a problem there,” he said."
