First, I’m not jinxing anything I hope. Second, I’ve lived through being a Pitt fan for 3+ decades so I know we probably have multiple WTF losses still ahead of us on the schedule.
But honestly, this may be the season we have been waiting for.
1) The entire conference is a mess. We have the opportunity to take the Coastal, and the big bad Atlantic is down too. We can beat any ACC team this year on any given night.
2) Kenny Pickett - I was excited he was coming back but he is playing out of his mind. Truly - in this down year, he should be a Heisman contender if he can keep it up and our record stays respectable.
3) Supporting cast. There are no real glaring holes. I would say OL but the pass blocking has been phenomenal so I’ll give them a pass. DBs are alright. Other than that, we finally have a TE (x2), our RBs are better than last year, WRs outstanding, DL playing well and my favorite is the LBs. Yes, they have had some bad play from time to time. But how long have we been waiting for an experienced LB corps that is also athletic? Seems like since Blades and Sessions were here.
4) Covid did screw everything up but I feel like we benefitted somehow in this upside down NCAA football world. The whole Top 25 falls apart and yet we are doing well.
5) The WMU loss. My delusional Pitt fan boy take is that while I’m sad it ruined the prospect of being undefeated longer…it also woke the team up a bit. And it doesn’t impact ACC standing so our goals are still out there.
I guess all I’m saying is treasure this moment. We’ll return to our annual mediocrity trend soon but enjoy some of this success while we can.
