They loaded the box and took away our top offensive play, the jet sweep. They reconvined, altered the game plan and ran Conner more, got him the ball 17 times in the last 40 minutes of the game. And threw more downfield as well.

Was another great offensive game, very balanced, and very successful again.

If Peterman was a decent passer, I honestly think we win this game.

IF IF IF my aunt had nuts, she would be my uncle. We are a 7-5 program , regardless who is the coach, until we spend more, recruit better , and hire better staffs, this is who we are now and who we will be in 10 years , just because we have enough of a recruiting base to be average

They have a decent passer....they have a potent offense....stop putting blame where it does not belong. ... When this team loses it is because its defense sux.

If this team had a decent defense I honestly think an average qb on a bum ankle would not be able to put up over 400 passing on them.

True, but we are no threat for a long bomb, ever. I think Peterman runs this offense very, very well, but he is NOT a good passer and to me that contributed to the loss last night.

That is an excellent point, the defense is allowed to creep up without worry. Not only is the long bomb not there, but our WRs dont seem to have that gear and burst to create separation (or ability to push off every play like VT and the big guy from NC did)

Saw a stat that Peterman leads the country in most passes 'on target'. If someone can find that, please post. I think it has to be an error. He threw at least 3 yesterday far short of the receiver. I think he is a decent QB, but average to slightly above average at best. Doesnt turn it over much is the best I can say.

Orndorff did make them pay at the end of the half though.

In his defense it appeared the receiver might have run the wrong routes in a couple of those too.

The problem is that this offense seems to sputter at the most inopportune times. I'm definitely not blaming the offense for the loss last night (although the first quarter certainly didn't help), but the plays left on the field when the other team is trying to make a comeback (UNC, OSU, and VT) is difficult.

Last night PITT goes up by 5, the ensuing drive by VT leads them to a FG to make it a 2 point game. PITT then answers with a 4 play drive and punt. VT then gets another field goal to take a 1 point lead, PITT responds with a 3 and out.

Later in the game, PITT ties it up at 29. VT then takes a 3 point lead on a FG, PITT responds with a 3 and out. VT then gets another TD (damn Webb), PITT responds with another 3 and out.

Again, the offense has been spectacular and is not remotely close to the reason why PITT is losing games this year, but I would love to see the offense take over the end of the game more (like they did against UVA) moving forward.

Yeah, you are right. You think the coaches woulda just planned plays that would have worked instead of wanting to punt the ball huh?

Pretty psyched to see why we can do against the Miami defense which is a little banged up

The ONLY thing I had a problem with offensively was running the damn jet sweep inside our own 5. That was the single most retarded idea they could ever come up with. It was way, way, way too close to being a safety. Other than that, this is one of the best offenses in the country. If we had a decent HS level defense, we'd win the division running away.

Also thought we got too predictable late with the run on first and second down, pass on 3rd. And I didn't see us target Orndoff much after the first drive of the second half? Overall I've been impressed with the offense but it definitely has a jekyll and hyde quality to it.

Jekyll and Hyde in what way? So we should score every drive or else it's not a good offense? Every offense has some three and outs we are averaging 40 points game.

-Pitt's offense is ranked 14th in the country in points per game for Power 5 Teams. If we were not so Vanilla against Villanova, it would be ranked in the Top 10 in the entire country. Have at it.

We may not have a great passing attack, but the offense is averaging over 35 points per game this year. The losses are not due to the lack of passing.
