I've read a few columns that have mentioned the havoc rate. Havoc rate is a stat created by football outsiders [explained below] to judge how much, you guessed it, havoc a defense creates. To explain the havoc rate, check out...

Havoc rate is a pretty simple method for looking at how much hell a defense is raising. Add up tackles for loss (which includes sacks), forced fumbles, and defensed passes (picks and break-ups), divide it by total plays, and voila: havoc rate. The national havoc average in 2013 was 15.9 percent.
Decided to check out how Pitt was doing and, as you can expect, we are doing pretty damn well.

Overall - 21.5 % Havoc Rate - 8th in the country
Front 7 [created by the Front 7] - 14.0% - 7th in the country
Secondary [you know the drill] - 7.4% - 35th in the country
Thought it was interesting and just more numbers to show how well our defense is performing. Other good stats people can dive into on that page too.
