I will start this post off by saying that I believe HL is a great AD. She has done nothing short of an amazing job of advancing this department towards her vision of excellence. She has gotten rid of many people who she feels stand in the way of this goal across all sports.
With that being said, she has a real problem in Narduzzi. There is no way she could have been sitting at Heinz Field last night thinking that the future of Pitt football is undoubtedly bright. She obviously believes in PN but let’s make no mistake about it, last night was a disaster and she knows it.
She gave him an ill-advised long-term extension and has a lot of money invested in him, but he is also the coach of their flagship program. There were many coaches shown the door because they weren’t getting it done. PN just lost 52-6 to our biggest rival in primetime at home.
What she does moving forward will have a real effect on her tenure. Imo, she can’t talk the talk and preach excellence across the board and keep a guy that doesn’t seem like he’s fit to be the HC of a P5 team. The program is turning into a clown show filled with coaches who can’t coach, can’t recruit, and embody cronyism while the team flounders. Former players are blasting this team and coaching staff. Make no mistake, people in that department are watching this situation. Her credibility will definitely take a major hit if she allows this to continue. At the very least, she can keep PN but require a major staff purge barring a very unforeseen run this year.
I have never been so embarrassed to be a Pitt fan as I was last night. Thanks, Pat.
