Last year, we played a crucial December Sunday game vs Clemson directly opposite the Steelers. At the time, I said if we lose, we won't make the NCAA Tournament and I was widely criticized for that. Turns out, I was right and we missed it by 1 game. We ended up losing to Clemson in front of friends and family only. That doesn't automatically mean that we would have beaten them with a larger crowd but Heather is so enamored with her arena, that she didn't ask/request certain game times from ESPN before the season. As I remember, there were several other ACCN games that day and had she requested it in advance, there is no reason that Pitt couldn't have played later. In fact, ESPN would have probably appreciated the heads-up since there were probably like 14 Yinzers watching Pitt/Clem instead of the Steelers.

This year, she schedules WVU for 8PM in a non-televised game so that volleyball can have their own times lot at 5:30. Pitt fans will use any excuse in the book to stay away. They ain't going to games starting later than 7PM. As it turns out, nobody went but because of that, it was the largest student turnout in history because they gave them the thousands of empty seats.

But that's not all. We play Stanford at 6:30 opposite Steelers/Bengals at 8. She should have requested an afternoon game.

I know many of you will say that Pitt has no say and we play when ESPN tells us. That's only true to a point. These college basketball regular season games are very lowly rated. ESPN will not have any issue of scheduling 1-2 games per year around NFL games as its better for them anyway to not go head to head with the NFL in a home market.

NFL used flex scheduling for the games this week.

First of all, Heather did not put the schedule together. In college basketball, most of the coaches do. So, I would say that Capel did a great deal with this schedule.

2nd, TV does and did pick the times. The volleyball was originally scheduled for later, but was moved up so that people could attend both. If not for the move to 5:30, we would have had both overlapping each a bit.

"TV" does not pick the game times of games that arent on TV. Pitt could have played WVU at any time. It wasn't picked for TV. When that happens, the home team sets the start time.

For last year's Pitt/Clemson game, yes ESPN picked the start time to put it on ACCN. However, there were several ACCN games that day so it wasn't like it was some super-strategic move to have Pitt go head to head with the Steelers. It was an oversight. Before the game times were released, Heather could have requested to not go head to head with the Steelers and ESPN would have granted that as it is better for them as well.

The last week of the NFL was always scheduled for flex times with 2 games on Saturday starting at 4:30 and 8. So while the teams weren’t known until the the prior Sunday, the game times were. Now Pitt does have a noon slot for the Louisville game, which is in the same situation with 2 wild card games next Saturday. These 2 weekends every year have the potential for the Steelers to play a Saturday game around 4 or 8. 6:30 is the worst time since it overlaps both possible game times. The only safe out is to schedule noon games for these 2 weekends.

The AD has little to do other than logistics with the ooc opponents on the basketball schedule. My main gripe with HL came in the football side of interest where an AD schedules the games both in mid term and long term scheduling. She left with more openings on the ooc schedule for the remainder of the decade. I know the ACC needs four and majority of conferences need only three the the periodic scheduling of ND lessens the need to find three more opponents. Also she sacrificed the Wisconsin home game of a two year agreement to play in Ireland . In addition to Victory Heights financial issues she was not efficient in football scheduling.

It would be unfortunate if we go head to head with a Steeler wildcard game but this isn't something we can really plan for as the Steelers can play anytime that weekend.

What's kind of crazy is that the Ravens play the Browns earlier on Saturday, and should they win the only reason to hope for a Steelers victory is so they can play the first round @ Houston instead of Baltimore. You'd almost have thought that if the NFL wanted to instill some "drama" in the Saturday flexed games that they'd have put the Steelers game first. But in my retired world I get to sit @ home and watch both the Panthers v Cardinal AND the Steelers v Bengals, mostly in their entirety

Ravens game won’t get the ratings that the Steelers will and the Bengals provide the drama along with Burrow having an MVP year. Plus it forces Ravens to play their regulars. Finishing 5th is a big deal and playing the Texans.

If you guys are huge Pitt fans then you should only have one question.

What time is tip off?

No need to bitch, just show up at the proscribed time. Nothing more, nothing less.

We and 4,998 other fans will be there. A half-full Pete has become the norm even though we have been pretty good now for 3 seasons.

Do you think Pitt has to be elite and not just bubble good or maybe 5/6/7/8 seed type good for fans to come out consistently?

I think when you destroy a fan base it takes something out of the ordinary to get it back.

I also think that since I'm a Pitt fan I enjoy going to the games whether you or anyone else decides to go or not.

Steel is a farce who hasn't won a playoff game in 13 of Shady Ave Mike's 17 seasons.

I knew I remembered this game being scheduled for Sunday. Leave it to the no fun league to mess with pitt game traffic.
