John McGonigal in PG: "And it would be nice to ask Lyke about Narduzzi, among other topics, and give her that chance. But she hasn’t spoken to local reporters since July."

I wonder what the Lyke defenders on this board have to say about her NOT HAVING A WORD TO SAY TO PRESS SINCE JULY.

Derelict, fulsome with Narduzzi, arrogant - that's Ms. Lyke. I'm sure her enablers will say how busy she is with women's sports. At least Pederson took Walt Harris to task in 2001, you remember that season, don't you? With great fanfare Pederson gushed as the Panthers played in Heinz to open the 2001 season - only to fall to South Florida (pre-Big East), Miami (Fla) and Syracuse 42-10, Pederson told Harris he was making a list of replacement head coaches. Harris manned up to win six straight and finish 7-5.

One Pitt fan's reaction to Lyke: "If ADHL is going to keep Narduzzi no matter what happens the rest of the year, wouldn't it be a good idea to come out and say he'll be the head coach in 2021? That should reduce some of the negativity around the program since it would end speculation about his immediate future and should also benefit recruiting as well."

Will a 6-5 finish save Narduzzi?

Paul Zeise has preached keep Narduzzi based on the dreaded stability conjecture. He now says this: "That case is getting tougher to make, though, and not necessarily just because Pitt lost to Notre Dame. It is how they lost that is troublesome because it was one of the few times a Narduzzi-coached team appeared to throw up the white flag and just quit. The trademark for his teams have been to fight and battle until the end of games, but on Saturday they looked like a defeated team by halftime. "

Narduzzi's 2020 team has quit on him. Narduzzi is over-paid and snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug with his contract extension (Lyke's idiocy with the extension is generally not disputed by Pitt fans and local and national press; the ethics of this decision are under scrutiny).

As long as Heather hides out (in her office, basement, girls' soccer, who cares?) nothing will improve, nothing will change.

We are sailing with the JMII flag, but as Lyke continues to flounder, the Dave Hart flag is ready for string-up. Are you too young to remember him? Use Wikipedia and inform yourself.

Yeah... who would talk to that guy? That’s like Trump talking to msnbc or Biden talking to Fox News. Frankly it would be a douchie question in the middle of a season after 4 loses if she was going to fire the coach. Only a psu reporter would even think of something so crass.

I must of missed his post of asking heather if she was givingthe head coach an extension after the3-0 start. It’s the same level of stupidity

People want Heather Lyke to act out-of-character, but that’s not her style, nor would it be in anyone’s best interest - especially Pitt Athletics.

So what could she say that would make people happy? That she’s disgusted? That she’s put HCPN on the hot seat? That she’s gonna bring everyone associated with the football program into her office for a vicious azz-chewing?

It’s safe to say that no one wants the football team to do better any more than Heather Lyke. And anyone who thinks that she’s a passive Administrator - who’s content with the status quo - hasn’t been paying attention for the past few years.

??? It’s comical when morons get a keyboard to use thenshow ignorance about things they know zippo about.

I’m a democrat. Not exactly a Biden fan, but getting my vote.
I haven't heard about your wide-ranging Pitt football reading interests. Maybe you have them and have decided to keep buttoned-up.

My suggestion: subscribe to the Post-Gazette (I know, ownership is questionable). The PG has good sports writers and a weekly podcast that began mostly Pitt but as Pitt losses, PSU gets more attention - at least until they play OSU. Do yourhomework. Because you are just spouting criticism that is, well, like farts with IBS. All air, no bulk. Everything I've written has been drawn from interviews and the opinions of the supposed experts in Pittsburgh.

I'm all up for a discussion, but other than name-calling, your sack is empty except you don't like McGonigal and you don't like reporters.

What else do you have? See just calling someone a moron is like throwing a boomerang. It's bound to return fire.

I think people are in too much of a hurry to fire Narduzzi. The Notre Dame game was the only one this season where they had no chance of victory. Kickers missing kicks and players dropping passes led to their other three defeats.

A good offensive coordinator with an emphasis on the offensive line is all they are missing right now

Interesting to hear the defense of Lyke. Bad coaching usually begins with a supervision question. I don't know what she is exactly doing other than nothing. So the "anyone who thinks..." is a baseless argument, as pretty much any argument that begins with "Anyone" or "Everyone" is.

Some people who post just don't remember details that may have occurred in the past, but live on. Lyke, yes, the beloved, criticized Narduzz's program for continually changing assistant coaches. Is this the reason Whipple is still here? Is Narduzzi trying to placate her by keeping him on? Was she able to speak because the season had ended?

I have been paying attention for the past 60 years. If Pitt was willing to pay top grade salary to keep Canada, why wasn't Narduzzi offered the same opportunity to hire a quality OC when Canada left? That is an AD question.

And let me inform you: Pitt's head coaches come and go and the AD is always to blame. No question. Pederson should have gotten his walking papers for exercising no supervision over Wannstedt's player standards.

Jeff Long got rid of Harris. It was justice when Arkansas finally gave him what he deserved for a series of bad coaching hires - termination notice and a kick in the ass.

And let me borrow from your lexicon: "Everyone knows Wannstedt (bowl win, national ranking) and Harris (two season ending AP rankings, four consecutive weeks of AP rankings in 2002, and wins over ND, PSU, Virginia Tech, Miami) put Narduzzi to shame. There it is.

I never said I don’t like reporters.

I called you a moron for calling me a megatrumper for dare saying Lyke shouldn’t answer nor should a reporter say such a stupid ass question (try to keep up, as you say). Guess what, you’re hypocritical follow up isn’t getting me to change my opinion of you.

In fact I literally said if we gave Narduzzi an extension after the first three wins it’s equally as stupid.

Again, PSU loss. They have yet to win. Therefore you are saying they should get zero coverage, I’m fine with that. But again; you’re hypocritical saying psu is getting more coverage on a Pitt podcast? I have zero idea what you’re talking about about the pg podcast.

Lets get something very clear. A writer for a newspaper making like 40k a year and can’t do his job well enough to saddle up next to the people he is writing columns about OR WORSE antagonistically writing about the team you cover so they won’t give you access... won’t talk to you... won’t give you inside information doesn’t make you an “expert”. It makes you absolutely no better than anyone on this site. I’m not an expert, I haven’t lived in Pittsburgh in 20 years, and I have a very busy job and 4 kids. I don’t profess to be an expert, I merely watch Pitt for entertainment purposes only. If we are 1-10 or 10-1 I’m still a fan, just as much, and will continue to be.

Whipple was a rather big hire, don’t you think? The guy is an offensive guru. He turned out to be crap, but this is year 2? I don’t understand what you mean by saying why is he still here.

Walt Harris?? We all know why he was fired. Boinging a secretary? I realize a million teams offered him billions to coach and he went on to be a legendary hall of fame coach, but come on. I’ll take Narduzzis signature wins over his any day.

The OP is a fool. The situation is playing itself out and people will get mad no matter what she says. Speaking about it in public is a Lose-Lose situation.

That was used as dirt over him. Boosters made it clear that they thought Harris was a 8 win ceiling coach. I’d take Walt and Wanny back in a heartbeat over Narduzzi. Narduzzi has more blow out losses than signature wins.

for someone who loved to do interviews back in the spring, she has been strangely quiet the last few months..

There’s nothing private or personal about speaking in broad terms and generalities. She should give a vote of confidence for Narduzzi at this point. Being silent tells me she’s having discussions with boosters regarding the buyout financials. Silence is deadly in the realm of PR.

The press is also negligent in asking the tough questions like do you think Pitts spend is commensurate with the results? Top third spend in the ACC for football?

How much money did you steal from the general fund to keep sports afloat? Using that as a hush fund instead of supporting the mission statement?

What’s the plan to increase revenues given Pitt is near dead last among all P5 schools?

Should fans celebrate finishing so poorly in the Directors Cup standings last year? Mind you over 70 other non P5 schools finished ahead of Pitt.

What do you think of that Narduzzi extension now?

Any concerns about narduzzis ability to hire the best and manage them?

Why wear those god aweful uniforms in a nationally televised game? Wasn’t that homecoming?

I don’t need a degree in communications or journalism from Syracuse to know that heather and the media are failing in their responsibilities.

JMO. But I don't believe that broad and general answers to questions like those AT THIS TIME will illicit anything productive whatsoever. That would just amount to an opportunity for more of a public b!tch session and lead to further speculation and gossip.

If you think there is nothing being considered or evaluated w/r/t Pitt football or Pitt athletics because they aren't talking about it publicly now, you're certainly entitled to feel that way. Blogs like this serve that purpose. But I doubt Pitt feels compelled to dignify some reporter's whining right now.

I didn't include this in my *ahem* defense of HL, because I didn't think that I had to. But the big issue has always been, and is, and will remain to be - money. Heather Lyke is tied to a limited budget. You probably know that Pitt's overall football budget has been among the lowest of ACC programs, and that's due to the limited money that Pitt fans contribute to it.

So while Narduzzi's contract is quite respectable, I don't know whether the same can be said for the rest of his staff. (You brought-up the offer that was made to Canada.) I have no doubt that Canada received that offer only because he was a "proven" commodity (he earned it), and there was no way that his replacement was going to get that same deal.

Talking about Long...Wanny...Walt...Pederson. I feel your pain. But really, such discussions are irrelevant. The offending parties are gone - though we offended fans remain. If you've been watching for 60 years, then we're contemporaries.

In addition the offer after he accepted LSU, had almost zero risk of being accepted.

Agreed - two games lost by 1 extra point each.
NC State is a far better team than people give them credit for (although now their QB is hurt)
Played Miami tough with a freshman QB making his second career start

Only team they laid an egg against is Notre Dame.
The bye week needed to come a week earlier

Get a better offensive coordinator for next year and go from there

At this point it's pretty clear that he's a misogynist. Lyke could hire Urban Meyer out of retirement and he'd bitch that the blue of her blouse at the introductory presser wasn't right and that we were obviously going to lose football games from it.

The funniest thing is that he thinks that Lyke is awful at her job but that the sports writers for the PG are good at their jobs. Even though they can't get the athletic director at the major local university to answer their questions. Or even acknowledge that they exist.

nothing better than narduzzi on tape saying canada wasn't worth the money. and look at the crap he's served up since. dude was worth $2M.
I like HCPN, but sometimes he sounds like a jilted suitor. One wonders whether he was jealous over the credit that Canada got for the team's success in 2016...?
