For the record, I think he is a real quality OC. Not as good as PC was, who I think is a top 5 offensive coach in college football, but I think Chaney is a proven, real quality OC. And, all of this is not to say he isn't beyond any criticism.
Last week I had a debate with someone over him, and noted that the Panthers had scored the second most points of any team for the season against NC and ND. This was discounted because they scored most of the points in the second half, somehow point scored in the first half had some greater meaning.
This week, they again scored the second most points for an offense against Louisville, but it mostly came in the first half and somehow Louisville making adjustments and the team just generally cooling off in the second half was solely about him being a moron.
THE big beef for him for most all along was not giving Ollison the ball enough ... If he had just kept giving him the ball, this team very well would be undefeated.
He's got the second most rushing attempts in the ACC.
People were all up in arms because he "can't pick a QB" in the first two, three games, while he and Nards were doing their best to respectfully deal with with Voytik while turning over to a better QB who gave the team its best chance to win.
It just seems a reflexive thing, the team playing a better team or not performing well and "his play calling sucks!"
He had a lot he was dealing with - the normal transition to a new scheme/system, losing an AA caliber RB, transitioning to a QB with very little starting experience, transition on the OL and losing one key piece in Jones Smith, totally unproven/undeveloped WRs past Boyd ...
Meanwhile, in the last three games against ND, Duke and Louisville, they have put up 30, 31, 38 points ...
