Everyone on this board has known for months, but it still stings. I understand that. The biggest problem is obviously losing a talent like that. The other issue right now is perception. Pitt can find and land good players, but they haven't been able to in the spring. Right now, there is no energy around this program. It just seems to be lacking excitement. I know you can insert your joke here. Part of it is that they keep everything top secret. If you are going to go the Belichek route, you better win.
As I have said for months, Heron was decommitting regardless of Slice. Now that Slice is at St. John's, it makes more of a sensible landing spot.
I still think Rowan hurts more. The fact that he was local and right here makes it tougher to swallow in my eyes. Heron is gone, but Maverick at least has Pitt in his mind somewhere. I don't think there is any way that it happens, but it would certainly give this program the jolt of energy that it needs.
Now the names are really emerging. Gilbert gets the offer, as does Ellison. Nwamu is in this weekend. I will be tracking down all of these guys and releasing articles as the days go by. More names will emerge as well. We could see as many as 12-15 names come up this spring. Going to be a lot of activity.
This program could add as many as four more players. I am not sure all of the moving parts are done here. There are going to be swings and misses. At the end of the day, this team will be as good as the newcomers they add this spring. Durand Johnson only hurts if they don't add a player to replace him. Having doubts that they can is very valid. They have not been able to do it in the spring, so we will see if it is any different now. This is a very important time for this staff. This spring and 2016 is about as important a time as when Howland first arrived.
