Hey Andrew Filliponi.......

Dunlap tweeted at Filiponi and said he was out with the family and wanted to know the score :)

Even better than knowing Filliponi is at home crying is Cook looking like a moron again. Had an article the other day where he said Jamie is crazy for thinking Pitt's defense was going to get better. Wasn't completely wrong about Pitt in the article, but this guy would criticize Pitt if they were undefeated. That's why Jamie is making millions coaching a D1 team and Ron Cook is fat loser who's proudest moment in life was buying Tom Bradley a beer.

If you've been listening to local sports media the last couple weeks Filliponi has been one of the more complimentary sports guys towards Pitt and far less critical than many a "fan" that posts on this forum. He seemed to sour a bit more after the Wake game, but so did just about all of the people here, including myself.

Plus, I'm really tired of him and Cook taking about his girlfriend......take sports for crying out loud.........

Missed the pre-game as I was listening to the Pens leak goals against the Lightening, but I won't be surprised if Poni gives Pitt props on Monday or tomorrow night if he's on the Showdown. Thing is, it doesn't change much, Pitt appears to be pretty matchup dependent. Think the two road games to end the regular season are now the make/break games of the season unless they can win one of the two home games.

Well, living in eastern PA I don't know who Filliponi is. I gather from this thread that he's a Pittsburgh
sports announcer of some sort. Also, from previous threads many posters seem to dislike not only
Filliponi but I guess other announcers as well (for their anti Pitt bias). Ron Cook, I am familiar with
because his articles can be read on line. BTW, even from over on this end of the state his anti Pitt
rantings are fairly obvious IMO.

Then what did Cook and Bradley do with the empty beer bottle?

Yes - Andrew and Ron Cook are on 93.7 from 10-2. My only beef with Filliponi was when he used to do the pregame hoops coverage and would openly mock Pitt. It's one thing when you do it on your show, quite another for those tuned into our flagship station for a pregame and would have to hear it. He has since been bounced from that. Even though it makes me a bit uncomfortable (I thought sports broadcasters keep their personal allegiances private?), I can see where openly rooting for your alma mater for "entertainment" could be acceptable. It's when he used to do it during PITT broadcasts that it stepped over the line IMHO. Ron Cook frequently points out how his first born will be named "Boeheim".

What did he say?
The last segment of their show on Friday was about this game and how he was rooting for Syracuse. Maybe it's me, but when I listen to national sports talk radio, I rarely hear any of the announcers waxing poetic regarding their alma maters. And when you winnow it down to something more regional, usually programs are based around the teams relevant to that area and normally, in a POSITIVE way. It's about knowing your audience, right? It would be like 93.7 putting a guy out there who openly mocked the Steeler's or the Penguin's. They'd never last. Regardless, I love seeing Filliponi having to squirm because Pitt has dominated his Orange for the last 12 years, hence the suck it comment.

Cook is a lazy journalist who has written 3 articles in less than 2 weeks slamming Jamie and Pitt hoops. He goes out of his way to kick the Panthers when they are down. I am interested if he will write another article now that they have gotten a good win on the road.

I wonder if Poni heard the news that 93.7 is Pitt's flagship station?

The only credible voices are Pompiani and Ziese.
All the others are generalists who don't know the game. I only now listen to Bob and Paul.

big marty - I'm with you on this one. Like listening to PZ. Only listen to the other programs for short stretches, like if I'm in the car - or I'll listen if they are talking Pitt.

Was listening on Friday and apparently Poni had contacted Syracuse to try to get Jim Boeheim to do an interview on their show. Cook was on Poni because Syracuse hadn't even made a reply to Poni... What I can't take about Cook is his absolute worship of certain sports figures - e.g., he was totally taken in by "the great" Paterno; he gushes over Ben Roethisberger - I just find it kind of creepy.

Go Pitt.

I just read one of those online gossip deals....25 athletes who are really creeps was the title. Ben and Vick were in the top 5. FWIW.
BTW....the list of 25 celebs with genital herpes made me swear off sex for a month. That's my excuse anyway and I'm sticking to it.

KDKA is the Pirates and no one there is going to do much other than be in the tank for them, And almost no one anywhere is going to take on Mario and the Rooneys...
So it seems Pitt becomes the entity that gets the trash talk in order for these folk to appear not 100% homers...
Not good for their aspirations if any to move beyond Pgh...
Jmo
And a few have come from State and Syracuse so regionally that bias is going to come out like it does...

I actually like Pony for the most part but no doubt really enjoy it when he gets on his Pitt thing and has it shoved right back in his face...

I can assure you he is nothing like Stan Savran was...
WORST ever by a long shot.....

I saw Stan on TV the other day. His face reminded me of the portraits of aged Native Americans, sans the feather. His facial lines are plentiful and run deep.
And highly unattractive.
Other than that, he looks good.

Its always been puzzling how Pitt's supposed flagship station has gotten away with hiring clowns who openly mock the program. Im sure the SP appologists wont like this but I suspect that Barnes and company wont tolerate that kind of garbage and will look elsewhere when the time comes. Its one thing to be fair in the critique of the program. I don't think anyone expects the media to give the program a free pass for playing poorly. But Pitts own flag station should at least not have employees openly rooting against and putting down program .

Madden who I really like has him on regularly and the station cannot be changed fast enough..
Mark calls him the Godfather
He is actually the Waterboy for all things Grandpa and STATE.

His despicable insults and lies hurled at Pitt remain to this day unmatched !
He's a bum

I can't stand Filiponi. But nothing wrong with him when it comes to Pitt IMO.

Some hated radio personalities keep listeners because their schtick attracts ratings. Filiponi is hated and his smugness chases listeners away. I wish 93.7 would recognize this. They think his intelligence compensates for it. But he shows day in and out that his analysis is often wrong.

Back to Pitt...as long as he stays off Pitt pre game and post game, there's nothing wrong with his position on Pitt. He's complimentary at times and he is critical at times. If he does it during his show...so what.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't mind him being overt in his fandom. Plenty of national radio folk have ongoing shticks that deal with their rooting interests. As long as they are open about it, I don't mind.

That would be fine if he was doing the Syracuse pre-game show. Orange fandom certainly has NO pace on a Pitt pre-game show. This show is for Pitt fans and faithful, it is there solely to gin up interest and provide up to the date information on PItt to the faithful. Not many fans of other programs are going to be tuning in!
No one listening to that show is interested in hearing about Syracuse, or Boeheim, or Pitt bashing. Factual criticism is fair game, but it gets really old to listen to the co host have to defend Pitt, or shout down Orange praise on a PITT pre-game show on our flagship station!
