I have faith that Pitt will do as well in their search for a new basketball coach as they did in finding a new football coach

As well as with the football coaching search??? How well did we do with that? He's on board for 1 full year with OK results. We don't know anything yet on how well we did with football. If he can win 8+ games for the next couple of years and get us to a major bowl within the next year, then we did very well. If not, then we're mediocre in football as we have been for decades. Look at next year's schedule. Do you see 8+ wins there? I don't.

My only hope is that we get a basketball coach that can do what Jamie has done for the past 5 years....get us to the NCAA Tournament most of the time. I have my doubts. You do realize that if Dixon leaves, we are losing the best coach in any sport currently at Pitt?

I would hope we could make a big hire like we did with Narduzzi, he was the best coordinator in the country. But totally agree, I would have huge doubts. Jamie is by far the university's best coach and the next coach will have to meet some large expectations. If he doesn't make a Sweet Sixteen in his first 3 years, he's already behind. That's not totally fair, but Dixon had a great start to his career and although a rough past few years, his career as a whole has been great as well. The next guy would have to do something really big here to ever be looked at as an improvement.

I agree. The next Pitt hoops coach, if there is to be one, will find it necessary to get this team to at least a Sweet Sixteen in the first few years, and to the NCAAT by the second year, at a minimum. If that doesn't happen, he'll feel the wrath of the yinzer. And beyond the first few years, the next coach will need to get us to a Final 4 or more by year 5, at the latest, to be considered a real improvement over Dixon. That is going to be very difficult to do. The football side of things is a cakewalk compared to this.

How much better was Wannstedt than Harris? How much better was Graham than Wannstedt? How much better was Chryst than Graham? How much better is Narduzzi than Chryst?

That's the future of our basketball program.

Yep.

You would think that after watching the football program people would realize stability is a good thing.

So are you saying it is better to be average with 1 consistent coach then to be average with a bunch of different coaches?

But pitt basketball really hasn't been average, even in the last 5 years...and if you look at his fil tenure not even close to average.

True, prior to the last 5 years, he got bounced prematurely (based on seed) for all his tournament appearances. That is a mark of great coaching!
