We missed a good chance to get a win against 1-13 Youngstown State. YSU led 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, Pitt had a runner on 2nd and none out when the snow showers hit. They didn't wait long until they cancelled the game.

You shouldn't be playing baseball on a day that the high temperature is something like 35 degrees.

They did get the game day promotion right on though. It was earmuff day. First 200 fans in attendance got a free pair of earmuffs. I wonder how many leftovers they had?

We need a retractable roof!
Wondering why they cancelled the game instead of just postponing it, there is a lot of weekday days/times left during of the rest of the season to reschedule the game. It isn't a long drive for the Penguins to come back.

thanks, that's great news, The last I saw was on the twitter right when the game was called and they said cancelled. We can't pass up those chances for non-ACC wins.

It actually says "cancelled" in the story on Pitt's web site, right before it says when it was rescheduled for.

However, I am not sure how much a non-ACC win over a team as bad as Youngstown State is worth. If their winning percentage stays anywhere at all close to where it is now they will be an RPI drag if we beat them, and they will be an RPI killer if we would happen to lose.

probably not concerned about the RPI-drag-kill, doubt we'll be a candidate for an NCAA berth, our first goal this year should be to qualify to participate in our FIRST ever ACC baseball tournament, something we've not been able to accomplish yet, baby-steps

Pitt's athletic web site can sometimes be a joke. Check out the women's softball schedule and it called the recent tourney in Boca the "Panthers Tournament" when in reality, it was the "Parents Tournament" hosted by FAU. I wrote the social media manager, linking him to the FAU web site that shows the correct title, he never responded and they never changed it. Might be a small thing, but shouldn't they desire to be correct in what they post on their web site? Now, the cancelled/postponed baseball article

They do have it as "postponed" in the "schedule" part of the website.

The weather forecast for today was a high of 34 with scattered snow showers ....... I wonder why they just didn't postpone the game and reschedule it before YSU had to travel down to Pitt ..... save them the trip and play it in hopefully better weather later.

If we qualify for the ACC tournament we will almost certainly be a candidate for an NCAA berth. For instance two years ago there were 10 teams that made the ACC tournament and all 10 of them made the NCAA tournament as well. Last year "only" 8 of 12 made the NCAA tournament, but Georgia Tech, BC and Notre Dame all had under .500 overall records, so they had pretty much no chance at all.

Make the ACC tournament with an above .500 record and we will at least be in the conversation.
