How does Izzo constantly get this great treatment from the committee. They are essentially playing home games as the #3 seed. Boy does he whine.

Pitt played in Pittsburgh as a 3 seed. They also as a 3 played 6 seed Wisconsin in Milwaukee if you wanna talk about ridiculous. There's nothing unusual at all about a 3 seed playing in their home state.

When did PITT play in Pittsburgh as a #3 seed?

The first time they made the tourney under howland, 2002. They played 14 seed central Connecticut and 6 seed cal at the Mellon arena. Pitt never schedules true home games at the penguins arenas anymore so Duquesne has always been the host in recent years when the tourney comes to Pittsburgh. Not only is there no rule preventing you from playing that close to home if you're not the host, the committee actuallly looks to place teams there.

-This Duke team is stacked, its amazing they lost 7 games this year. If they dont win the title Coach K did a terrible job, and I dont care its 1 and done, its complete fail. They are so much more talented then everyone else its silly. Duke has 5 first round picks from this team and their size is incredible.

The top 4 teams in each bracket are SUPPOSED to get a home court advantage. That is one of the reasons you want a high seed. The one exception to this was when we were a 3 seed and Wisky was a 6 and we played them in Milwaukee.

Duquesne has always been the host when the NCAA has played in Pittsburgh because Duquesne is always the one that does the work and submits the bid. Pitt has NEVER attempted to be the host. Not once. For whatever reason they simply have not had the interest in doing it, under multiple ADs.

Pitt never schedules true home games at the Penguins arena anymore because Pitt has a vastly superior basketball arena on campus to play games in.

Why would they want to be the host? Not hosting gives you the benefit of being able to play there if you make the tourney. That's my thoughts on it at least, are there any actual benefits of hosting that outweigh potentially playing tournament games in your home city?

Well you get that if Duquesne wasn't willing to be the host that there would be no games in Pittsburgh for Pitt to potentially play in, right? I'd also point out that in all the years that the NCAA tournament has come to Pittsburgh that Pitt has gotten that benefit exactly once.

And obviously schools think that there is a benefit, because every year a bunch of them put in bids to host games. The schools make a little money on the deal, and the schools also get the chance to use access to NCAA tickets to help sell season tickets.

Well yeah, I was still assuming Duquesne would be hosting. If they wouldn't, I would think Pitt would. It may not happen every year, and a lot of schools put in bids, but then there's Villanova who has before scheduled below the minimum of games at the Wells Fargo center so they could play there in the tournament hopefully (which they did at least once I remember), and of course temple then hosted.

I'm guessing while Pitt was an annual tournament participant, they felt with Duquesne being willing to do it, all that wasn't worth maybe playing in Pittsburgh. Who knows though, maybe now that things have taken a turn for the worse they will apply next time it returns to Pittsburgh. Pitt certainly didn't need help selling tickets a few years ago, while now that should sound very appealing to Pitt.

That isn't the way that it works. The NCAA doesn't decide to come back to Pittsburgh and then looks to see who might want to host. The schools (and conferences) who want to host put in bid proposals and the NCAA selects cities based on who put in bids and what the bids say. Pitt has never put in a bid because it is a lot of extra work. Duquesne sees a benefit in doing so. Pitt never has.

That part I didn't know, thanks for the info on that. I had just assumed it was the arenas and cities themselves who then needed to get a local school to sponsor if granted. So are you saying then that potentially the NCAA could be sitting there with an application from Pitt to host at PPG, and from Duquesne to host at PPG for the same year? I do recall niagara and canisius co-hosting up in buffalo before.

Potentially? Yeah, probably so. Practically though it is unlikely to happen. Both of them would have to work with the venue, and the venue isn't going to want to do the work twice. I'm sure they would encourage the schools to work together or to come to some sort of agreement that one school would bid for certain years and the other school would bid for other years. Usually the NCAA puts out requests for bid for three or four seasons all at once (the last time they did it covered 2019 - 2022). So maybe they decide Duquesne would be the bidder of record in the first and third years and Pitt would be the bidder in the second and fourth years or something like that.

How many losses will WVU wind up with this year? 11 or 12? And we are talking about them having to travel?
