Home teams staying in hotels the night before a game

I know this is commonplace in college football, but what an incredibly unnecessary expense when you think about it. Schools could probably fully fund an additional varsity sport or employ a few more people around the athletic department without that expense.
 
I'm sure the cost factor has been considered, but obviously the risk of night-before-game distractions (whether on- or off-campus) is considered too great. It is much easier (but not foolproof) to impose a pregame curfew.

It's a rider on a horse. Total non-factor when you consider the revenues produced and the avoided issues to get the best product possible on game day. These are kids and the coaches are paid millions of dollars a year. They have to control what they can. Anything less is bush league and would be stupid. That's just the business.
