As a high school football coach, Pitt grad, and huge Pitt fan, I have followed recruiting websites such as rivals and scout for the past 10 years. Living in the Hershey area since 2006, I have been alone as a Pitt fan in the heart of Penn State territory. Checking into recruiting sites and blogs have been my way to remind myself that there are actually other Pitt fans out there. I just got a twitter account last month (@DCPitt04) and even got a 1 month membership to Rivals. Let me just say that those are probably the 2 best things that I could have done for my mental sanity. My poor wife (another Pitt grad) has to always listen to my rants about how sickening the Paterno cult is down here, and even though she humors me and completely agrees, it is awesome to know that there are other people out there that feel the same way. Even the posters who are a little off or ill-informed are still WAAAY easier to listen to than the hard core PS fans.
Living among the enemy, I can say that PSU fans are a passionate bunch, but so are Pitt fans, though I would like to think we are more realistic. With that said, I have a question I would like to ask the Pitt fan base to prove this point:
If Jackie Sherrill had covered up a child molestation scandal to protect the Pitt program, how do you think Pitt's fanbase would have reacted towards the coach or the program in general? How would YOU have reacted?
I have my opinion, but I want to see what others think.
