Hood Schifino has 21 for Montverde

His absolute mangling of that scenario doesn’t get brought up enough.

mainly because he ****s so much stuff up I guess

That was one of the most bizarre recruitments I've seen. His mom said every single important piece that you'd want a highly rated early commit to say about a coach. I wasn't sure if she was talking about Capel or God. Then like 2 months later he decommits. Why? What happened? How do you go from borderline worshipping a coach to decommitting a few months later? She specifically said she understands he could have waited for bigger offers. Made no sense at all.

Then the staff shuts him down by cancelling his visit, and some family members, it appears hoping he may still choose Pitt, get upset with the staff, yes very odd?

Why didn’t Capel bring both Mintz and Schifino in together? It’s not like we have Steph and Klay as our backcourt right now. They both could have played 30+ mins a game.

Hood Schifino has stepped up his game. Getting verbals from JHS first and then Mintz, then neither one comes here were massive blows to the program.

Very strange indeed. I wish someone would do some investigative reporting on this bizarre scenario. Was it incompetence on Capel's part, or something else?

The kid pretty much said he’s not coming to Pitt.
So the staff stopped being played by him .
Capel would do a lot better to stop chasing , get the quicker no-
And moving on.

12/30/19 - JHS commits to Pitt. His mother comes out and says they really like Capel, he isn’t going anywhere else, and her father always wanted a family member to play for Pitt.

7/27/20 - JHS decommits and says Pitt will always be at the top of my list but it might not be a bad idea to look at different options. I kind of want to experience the whole process,” Hood-Schifino said. “I just think that I did everything too fast without enjoying this once in a lifetime experience.”

6/15/21 - After initially scheduling an official visit to Pitt for June 16-18, Jalen Hood-Schifino will no longer be visiting the school, his mother told Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Hood-Schifino’s mother also included that Jalen and his family were ready to go on the visit as normally planned and were still interested in Pitt, however, the Pitt staff informed them that another player had committed to them at his position.

Two things at play here:

1. From my understanding, The kid and his family had no interest in Pitt still. They were using the official to get a free trip back to Pittsburgh and Capel’s rightly smelled a rat and cut them off.

2. just my thinking with the portal, seems odd to cut ties with any kid.

If they don’t want to get him on the bounce should he ever leave Indiana, the first move was brilliant.
