Horton

He shot 37% last year … decent for sure. It would help this team, but I don’t know if it’s the difference maker you are suggesting.

That was for the whole season. In ACC Conference play, he shot 39.1%

Horton started very slow the first few games last year because he didnt play a full game in almost 2 years because he redshirted. That's normal for a player to start off slow that hasn't played a game in a long time or came off an injury, like in Burton's case where Burton started off real slow to start the season with his shooting percentages.

I appreciate your points even if I don’t completely agree. Here’s hoping Ithiel makes a real impact.

You’re in the Pete game after game and you struggle to see how a 3-baller wouldn’t make a difference in 4 closely contested games? Yikes. We’ve had zero offensive production from a player or two. Add in the idea that Femi plays within himself just a tad bit more - a notion that’s not too far down the leftfield line at PNC Park. Ithiel may or may not add veteran leadership but we’ll find out soon I suppose. I think Brey and Bennett both look at Pitt differently in their gameplanning with Horton.

Make no mistake… I certainly think he will help.

If Horton can pose a legit 3-ball threat that will make it more difficult for Hugley to be routiinely doubled and tripled inside. Also, if Horton can provide even 1 to 3 more made 3s per game to the team that will make a significant difference. It may take a couple of weeks to get him comfortably into the rotation, unfortunately.

I’m really surprised that you aren’t more bullish. There is no possible way that IH is a net negative player for this squad. And just his presence alone has to equate to no less than 2-3 points per game, and that probably has this team 2-0 in the ACC instead of 0-2. Does he make this team a good one? Of course not. But his presence changes everything and makes every other player better.

Here’s why. Even with Ithiel … we are far from being a good offensive team. This team will still need to grind on defense. I hope Ithiel will contribute to this.

But again … make no mistake— I’m thrilled he’s back for us. But I will take some caution to see how much a difference he makes.

Per Pitt's athletic website , he is fully reinstated. He is eligible to participate with all team activities as of right now per school officials.
Yes … if Pitt did a press release… he’s back 100% and it’s hard to see how that changes.

I saw that.. just wasn't sure what's going on if the charges are being refiled..

Right. He takes minutes from somewhere else. he takes shots from someone else.

He plays defense and rebounds in place of someone else.

He is a change to team chemistry.

Horton is not just an automatic strictly positive add. Anyone thinking that is the case, is naive.

Looks like people expect us to go:

Odukale, Horton, Burton, Gueye and Hugley.

Do we really want to go that small?

I wanted to go big. That was never gonna happen. Olidapo and Payton hardly play.

Last season Horton.averaged 8.9 points per game. He won’t be a straight 8.9 point add—but, I expect he could add at least one more made three and provide Hugley enough double team relief to add an extra bucket per game. If his effect is no more modest than that it makes this team 5 points better per game. That should mean several wins if they don’t quit playing solid defense.

Could mean reduced (misdemeanor?) charges are the expected to be the refilled ones as a result of a plea bargain of some kind—perhaps? Any lawyers want to speculate?

You may end up being correct. I have no clue. But…

“Horton was reinstated to the team Thursday afternoon. If charges are refiled, that decision will be reviewed, a Pitt spokesman said.”

I mostly believe we have a great justice system but there needs to be immediate action in these instances. This isn’t life or death.
It seems to me there is a calendar. That calendar should be followed as much as possible.

If a real scheduling conflict occurs, things need rescheduled in days, not weeks or months.

Repeated failure to appear should lead to dismissal with prejudice.

This can't be that rare, there's a criminal procedure rule on it. These local issues are kind of hard to understand in practice unless you know someone who regularly practices in that court. I suspect it's more wait and see. The real question is whether Pitt will suspend him if (when) new charges are filed.

There has been a suggestion that (now with Horton reinstated) DiLucente will seek a continuance until after the season.

I would not be happy with that outcome either.

If a suspension was merited on the original charges, it is merited if the same charges are refilled.

Pitt should not be that desperate.

Regardless. He served his time. Punch or no punch.

A second degree felony charge can carry a sentence of 10 years

Maybe the cop, should you know, show up to the hearing?

Trib article states magistrate dismissed the charges because this was the 2nd time the DA was unable to produce his witnesses for a scheduled hearing on the matter.

How many times to they get to go through the process? You want to see justice served but at the same time it's not fair to string someone along indefinitely.

Agree. Unless he was testifying in another case elsewhere. Maybe a major drug case or a gang killing.
But couldn't that have been rearranged? The hearing was moved up a month, right?

To me, it sounds like the prosecutor is purposely trying to extend out the process to screw with Horton.
