Ithiel Horton’s case is closed.

His aggravated assault charge was removed, he now has been issued 2 counts of disorderly conduct and 1 of public intoxication

This is what his attorney had been trying to do for months - the cop just wouldn’t cooperate, and then wouldn’t show up to the hearings.

The question is - Why did this take so long?

Was it the judicial system or his lawyer playing hero ball?

This statement from his lawyer when the first time the hearing was postponed doesn’t sound like he was planning for any other outcome other than the one that happened today:

“We are frustrated today because he is sickened because of these charges.” DiLucente continued. “He is disappointed that he can’t be with his team and the earliest we’re able to have a date scheduled is January 19th. But with that said, we will be prepared to go forward due to the fact that in my 20-year career, less than a handful of times I can remember that an offer to have this matter resolved when a male officer is the alleged victim cannot be resolved.”

”I wanted to have it next week if possible so that we could get this young man who is a very nice, good family man back on the court to support his teammates. But more importantly than that, this also is hanging over his head and could potentially affect his studies.”

Community service(which the team does anyway ) , ard, and making sure you use Uber or Lyft while drinking -
This could have been resolved before the season .

What was his statement after the first hearing?

If I remember correctly it was the same message as many on the board: You don’t get arrested for language.

His characterization of the arrest was just as bad as some board members.

I am thinking he wanted the case dismissed with no or less punishment than now agreed to.

meh, its not really that atypical. I'm assuming he had no previous record. He should have gotten a different lawyer.
