How about Cam Ward opting out at halftime?

With Miami leading by 3 over Iowa State, he decided to opt out of second half. Imagine how Pitt fans would feel if he did that here? BTW, Miami lost by 1.

This is why all critics screaming to the top of their lungs about the ACC's poor bowl record shows the conference stinks are really just such morons and lemmings to the false narrative set up for them.

But as we have learned in this era of social media if enough people tell the same lie enough times everyone else starts to believe it.

Surprised he suited up. But I don’t know much about him as a man or teammate. Looked engaged on the sidelines in the 2nd half.

He is the first but certainly more guys will pull stunts like this

And the impact will fade. College football today

I’m assuming you think players opting out of bowls games for the draft, transferring before the bowl games, or missing the bowl games because of injury disproportionately affects ACC teams. Why do you think this happens?

He played 30 more minutes than Pickett bothered to play in his last Bowl Game so I’m not sure there’s much room for criticism on this board.

Right. Not sure why Kenny gets a pass from anyone. Ward likely had more to lose as he’s at least has a legitimate chance at being a productive NFL QB.

Pass? Were you in a coma after that Peach Bowl? There were plenty of fans that criticized KP when he opted out.

All kidding aside, if you were in a coma, I’m glad that you are well. And please take my advice and don’t do yourself further harm by catching up on the two seasons after that game.

I get why players opt out so I don’t deny them that decision Not any worse than a player who leaves for more Nil money

But I do give those that stay and play a lot of credit for being loyal Quite a few examples this year of those guys (Sanders, Cuse Qb. Hunter etc) but

However I would not count a guy who played a half just to pad his stats as someone ackowledge as being loyal.

Bowl games are transfer tryouts for disgruntled players and backups.

It's sad what the landscape of the sport is now. Having an "in-season" transfer is idiotic.

I think he was technically benched by his coach. For the record, Saquon Barkley was also benched at halftime of his last game. I believe it was the Fiesta Bowl against Washington. So this definitely isn’t the first.

What an awful look for college football. Willing to play (and risk injury) to pad his stats in the first half, but not to lead his team in the second half when he’s needed the most. It would have been better for Miami to simply have not played Ward at all and given first team practice time and a whole game to the backup.

Yep - The ACC represented well during the regular season versus the other power 3 with full rosters.

The one aspect of this I haven’t seen mentioned is that what Ward did to Emory Williams was selfish, not selfless.

A lot of people said he “provided” Williams an opportunity to play in the second half of the Pop Tarts Bowl. What they really mean is Williams was thrusted into the game with (likely) no bowl prep to be QB1 in the second half. Williams did not look good and now the Canes will almost certainly be in the portal for a QB.

Does he play better if the plan was to start him the entire time? Maybe, maybe not. But he should’ve been provided that opportunity instead.

For me, the most embarrassing thing about this is Miami's bloated roster getting up to #4 in the polls before dropping two of their last three games, after playing a ridiculously weak OOC schedule, only to get their second ten win season since they left the Big East. And they still haven't won the ACC.
