What it really shows is how much of an "expert" the people on the committee that selected this list are.
I mean seriously, not only is Champagnie not PITT's best defender, he isn't even close to it. Which everyone who watches Pitt (and understands what they are watching) knows.
It certainly tells you all you need to know about watch lists.

Just maybe not for his defense .
He's absolutely been the best offensive player in the ACC so far, and the best rebounder so far.
He does some good defensive things such as shot blocking, and I even think his defense has improved this year. But he still has a long way to go with off ball defense.
A player who is not even the best defender on his own team can hardly be a candidate for defensive player of the year. Player of the year, sure.

Exactly! His off ball defense has been bad.
All anyone has to do is watch the WF game.
As you said DT, his shot blocking is good.
In fact, it's been exceptionally good when
you factor in his height.
Usually how well you guard your man, is
the determiner as to how good your D is.
Rebounding on the defensive end, and
shot blocking matter. He's no Defensive
Player of the year. However IMO, he
easily could be the Player of the Year
this year in the ACC.
